This was my 1st visit. Needed corn tortilla's (we eat on the daily). I decided to go here instead of our normal local shop to give them a fair try. The employees (2) were super busy stocking & bagging fresh product. I was happily surprised that they offer a variety of fresh tortillas both corn & flour in different sizes. They also have fresh made tamale's & sweet bread (pan). I purchased 1 bag of regular corn tortillas & 1 bag of street taco size (both still hot & steaming in the bags). Also purchased 1/2 doz of each tamale's ( Green/pork, Red/pork & Green Chile/cheese) It's hard to find decent tamale's. Most of them tend to be dry & "ALL" masa. The pork was definitely present in both the green & red versions. Very nice for a change, the green Chile & cheese (always my favorite) Were delicious 😋 but a little too🔥spicy as were the Green/pork. The red Chile/pork were GREAT just the right amt of spice & meat. The tortilla's were "ok", fresh corn smell & taste. However, they are very thin & became tough when warmed up. The prices were higher than what I normally pay but everything is going up these days anyway. I did have a little trouble locating the store @ 1st I was looking for the reddish painted bldg as listed on the website. But the location has been painted white now. If you blink you'll pass right by it. I think the red color of the bldg would definitely be easier to identify.. just saying... My final thought is this..if you like fat, very spicy fresh tamale's then stop by & give them your business. If you love fresh made tortilla's my opinion is "give or take" I'll definitely be back to try a few churros & other sweet breads sometime in the...
Read moreReminds me of home! I have been wanting to come here since I moved from SoCal. With the holidays around the corner I have been looking for a place that sells the masa by the pound. I tried one of each of there tamales first. Red chili pork, green chili pork and my favorite green chili and cheese! All were very tasty and delicious in there own way. In all three the masa was good on it's own. Not chunky or gritty but smooth and silky, with an excellent taste. One could argue that their masa could stand up to the masa of East Los Angeles places. Yes, it's that good. I also purchased a small package of flour tortillas which I have not tried yet but they remind me of the tortillas my mother in law brings from Santa Cruz when she visits. I can't wait to try them along with all the other wonderful smelling items they have. All the ladies in there were very friendly and helpful. I will be...
Read moreTortillas were a little thin and bland, once warmed up they help up for a small window then sorta just got harder.
Refried beans were stellar and were seasoned properly. I got a half pint of them.
Barbacoa was ok at best, meat had tendons and tough cuts. If braised a little bit longer they woulda been perfect.
Tamales (Red)were decent but were loaded up on masa, so the end product was a little bit on the drier side than I’m use to. Not bad but I like em mois. The other tamales (Green) were good but I also like the spice. The pork was a little drier than I’m use to but then again there’s a significant more amount of masa in them. So if you’re looking for hearty tamales they’d work.
All in all $61(tip included) for 1/2 quart of beans, 1/2 quart of Barbacoa, 1 pack of tortillas and a dozen tamales. Wasn’t really worth it, better deals around town if you’re...
