If I could I would give the Derby Greenway more than just a 5 star rating. A beautiful paved trail with sunny sections as well as shaded areas with bench seats along the park area and some facing the Naugatuck River towards Rt 34. No benches along the straight stretch going towards the Derby/Ansonia line. Dogs are prohibited by ordinance due, in part, to the abundance of Canadian Geese family’s that breed here & the other wildlife ~ but you will see the occasional dog. Watch out for Goose droppings along the trail. Occasionally cleaned but not daily. Avian wildlife sightings are very common here. You may see Eagles, Hawks, Blue Herons, White Herons, Cormorants, Egrets and so many others. There is a large parking lot and a fishing/viewing platform near the lot. From the lot enter the trail, proceed to the right and just before the little bridge turn right off the paved trail. Walk all the way to the end ~ just 100 yards or so ~ and you will arrive at the confluence of the Naugatuck and Housatonic rivers. Walk, run, wheel & bring a lunch, bring the kids, bring your fishing pole. 😎

We enjoy the Derby Greenway in all Seasons! A great place to escape in beautiful nature! Also, every October the Derby Lions Club hold their Annual Strides Walk for Diabetes where we team up with Griffin Hospital. We offer FREE A1C Blood Sugar Testing. Look for us this Fall at the BJ's Entrance, date TBA.

The Ansonia section of the Naugatuck Valley Greenway Trail is a nice addition to an amazing community walkway. Currently it's the only section that allows dogs. It also is a local hang-out for the local buzzards who seem to particularly enjoy cruising the updrafts over the river.

Beautiful riverside trail. Have enough parking to park and walk or run. Quite busy in the evenings. I mostly park near the BJ’s. Don’t use BJ’s parking lot, there are around 10 parking spots near the trail. If you don’t find one just cross the road and you will find more...
