A 29-acre park on Detroit's southwest riverfront, at the foot of West Grand Boulevard and west of the Ambassador Bridge In 2015 the City created a new master plan for the park and began an extensive renovation project of the entire park.
The first phase of construction was on the Northeast section of the park on West Jefferson, completed in 2018. This area is about six acres, three of which were added to the park, this includes a new softball diamond, soccer field, picnic shelter, playground, basketball court and toilet facility. The following year the park was expanded again by an additional three acres on to former city-owned dog pound facility and vacant land, turning the site into parkland with the largest dog park in the city and a 20,000-squarefoot skate park. In addition to all these renovations extensive environmental remediation has taken place, to ensure that the park is safe for all...
Read moreIt's a little run down and could use some renovation but it's still a great place to go if you just want to snap off a few pictures of the Bridge or looking to throw a line in the water. Theres no question the fishing is great in the Detroit river so this is a primetime fishing spot. The park is located around an old industrial neighborhood and i would consider it a safe park or at least as safe gets for being in the city. Usually there's either a Detroit cop or Border Patrol officer hovering around nearby watching over the bridge/U.S. Border. I personally wouldn't plan a day here not unless you plan on fishing, but it works if you want a place to kill some time and get away from the city w/o leaving the city if that makes any...
Read moreWe stopped here after visiting the zoo. Farther down they are expanding the river walk which is still under construction. This area is done. Beautiful walk along the river and a great spot to view the Ambassador Bridge along with the barges coming through. There are public restrooms, which were not bad at all. There are bench swings along the river walk, a kids splash pad spot, an outdoor gym, dog park and a pavilion. Lots of beautiful planters full of flowers. The parking lot is right next to it. The area farther down that is still under construction will be a great addition to the downtown area. While downtown, we also walked by the stadiums and had dinner. It was just a short drive from downtown to the...
