I have had cancer twice, I have been treated many places, and city of Hope is hands down the most amazing place that I have ever been. They are all about patient care and making sure that we are safe, comfortable, heard, and know that we are important. Every single person who works here makes you feel like you are family and they take care of you like you are. I got an allogenic stem cell transplant here with Dr. Aldoss and Maria Motta and I am so grateful for them. So grateful to every nurse on the 6th floor who took care of me during the hardest moment of my life, Rachel the activities coordinator who made it such a wonderful and fun experience whenever she was able to, the cleaning staff who always made sure I was in a sanitary environment while I had no immune system and always checked to see how I was feeling every single day. I also was apart of an AYA zoom support group with Stella who led it that was so amazing. I have dealt with GVHD post transplant and Dr. Aldoss and Maria have been so on top of it with helping manage everything. Any time I have had a problem, they always have a solution. And we can message them through the patient portal, they usually respond the same day. I also stayed in the hotel after I was released from the hospital and it is SO nice. It had a microwave, stove, oven, fridge and freezer, all the plates forks knives cups bowls pots and pans were there for us to use, a bed, a pullout bed couch for the care taker, two tvs, a closet for storage, etc. and the restaurant is a little pricey but some of the best food I’ve ever eaten. I love you city of Hope. Thank you for making a horrible thing to go through into such a positive and uplifting experience. I couldn’t imagine being with anyone...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible experience with City of Hope. As someone on student insurance I was forced to be self pay despite my insurance company telling their billing department that they would cover the visit without a referral. It is a PPO insurance. City of Hope stated they had a policy barring me from using my insurance without a referral just because I'm a student even though my insurance company stated they would be if they ran it through my insurance. I was told to get a referral less than a week before my appointment or I would be self pay. In the end I was forced to self pay 15 minutes before my appointment or I wouldnt be able to see an Oncologist regarding my serious concerns. I still don't know why they couldnt just run my insurance. But because they didn't I have been trying to get it all covered, but they have been a nightmare to deal with when it comes to getting itemized receipts which I need to file my claim. I would advice extreme caution to any student considering using city of hope. You may have PPO insurance that covers specialists visit without a referral, but they won't...

I hope with all of my heart that not a single one of you reading this ever has to come here or has a family member that needs to come here but if you do and you are looking for some reassurance during a terrifying time I promise you, you can trust this place. This is one of the best cancer hospitals in America, from the receptionists, to the doctors, to the crossing guards, to the nurses these people put everything into caring for their patients and I will be thankful for the rest of my life every single day that I have more time with my little sister.
