Lakewood Shopping Center — Attraction in Durham

I don't really like this shopping center. It's a bit derelict and the area leaves a lot to be desired. The main anchor store, Food Lion, is a decent grocery store, but they make no attempt to keep the parking lot in good condition. It's also not easy to get into - the architectural design of the center was poorly designed.

They also allow a lot of loitering in the parking lot, which encourages gang activity and leaves legitimate shoppers feeling uncomfortable. More than once I've been approached by beggars who comment things like "what a nice car you have" and how easily it could be harmed but if I "throw a couple of dollars our way we will keep it safe." The thing is, if they just asked for help, I would've happily and freely given them money - I keep a few dollars in my pocket for just such an occasion.

But protection tax? Like in a mob movie? This is why I stopped frequenting this shopping center and started going to a more upscale one where I'm less likely to be threatened.

I went to the food giveaway that is every Wednesday from I think 11:30 to 1:30 but it might be 12 to 1:30 not quite sure. It was at the Catholic Charities Community Food Bank, and it was such a blessing! There's three reasons to go here, the first and biggest is scrap exchange. If you haven't gone recently, you need to! They've opened up a huge thrift store with a great selection of men's clothes (something most thrift stores lack) and an even greater selection of women's clothes. Remember to check out both of their buildings, both in Lakewood. The 2nd reason to go is the Mexican restaurant that I forget to name of, but you'll know it when you see it. The 3rd reason?
