My first visit to Akway’s Sports Barbershop was not the best experience.
When I walked in, there was no one to greet me, and children were running around inside and outside the building. After sitting down in the waiting area, I was eventually asked if I had an appointment or if I was a walk-in. The staff seemed disorganized and unaware of their client schedule. My partner's appointment was scheduled for 3:45 PM, but we were told to wait an additional 15 minutes, which is understandable as delays can happen.
However, the first appointment took an hour and 30 minutes, and so did my haircut, despite the service being listed online as only taking an hour. Accurate time slots online would greatly improve time management and expectations. I was not expecting a 30-minute wait due to the lack of communication, and the barber did not acknowledge or apologize for running late.
During my service, the barber was not attentive. He dropped all of his tools and sprayed a ton of water in my face without warning me to close my eyes. I was basically drenched, and the water dripped into my eyes. Despite working directly in front of me, the barber did not attempt to dry my face or acknowledge the discomfort.
He hit my face with his comb multiple times and dropped his tools, attempting to clean and disinfect them before reusing them on my hair. State law requires tools to be cleaned, washed, and then disinfected for at least 20 minutes total, but he used them after dipping them in Barbicide for less than 5 minutes. Additionally, the ceiling tiles were dusty and had open spots.
I overheard another barber telling a client she would need to wait 45 minutes and then an additional 15 because he had to run out and grab food for the children running around.
The barber frequently interrupted the service to change his music, spending a good 5 minutes skipping songs to find one he liked. At the end of the service, it felt rushed and unsatisfying. Other barbers were merely sweeping the floor rather than properly disinfecting their stations or chairs. They used blow dryers or small air pressure blowers to clear hair from stations, but there was still a significant amount of hair in the cracks, chairs, and shelves. They were also discussing their plans for later, suggesting my barber should rush and skip the finishing steps so they could hang out.
Overall, the setting was very unprofessional, with dirty stations, dirty tools, and unethical practices. I will not...
Read moreI walked in and was immediately greeted with blank stares and silence. I asked if I could get a straight razor shave while pointing to my head. The 4 or 5 barbers in the room looked around at each other to determine who would be available first. I was then instructed to sign myself in on the tablet sitting on the podium desk. When I was led to my chair I noticed clumps of hair on the foot rest. Once I sat down my barber began talking to the barber next to him asking him for instructions on how to do a straight razor shave. He actually said, "So what do I do? Do I just rub this all over his head?" That was so concerning to me I almost thought they were joking but as the shave began it became apparent it was no joke. My barber didn't say a word to me. He instead continued to talk to the other barbers as he scratched away timidly at my scalp with a straight razor. The barber next to him must have seen him doing something wrong because he walked over to him and asked to talk to him in private. They walked through the barber shop and into the back room where they were gone long enough for me to catch up with social media notifications on my phone. I wanted to leave. It was unnerving. Eventually they came back and my barber resumed scratching away at my scalp until he used a hair dryer on my head and asked for 40 dollars cash. I asked, "You don't take a card?" to which he replied, "They do (meaning the other barbers). I don't" As he pointed to an ATM I looked at my head in the mirror. Not even close to a clean shave. The pic I attached was taken right outside the barber shop as soon as I exited. Obviously I'll never be back to this place again and I have half a mind to find out if this place is putting straight razors in the hands of unlicensed "barbers". I don't know how they style hair but definitely don't come here looking...
Read moreThis place is the must unprofessional establishment I have ever come across in all my days of getting a hair cut. I normally have been going to a 2 places to get my trim etc what have you. My barber was ill and the other fine establishment I go to as well is normally closed for Sunday's. I had a emergency haircut for a wedding, I ask my friend where else do you recommend. So I came here I asked one of the men there can you guys fill me in today I don't have an appointment, Mind you I arrived at 3 hours before the place closed. "Sure" the guy says but there's one person ahead of you I'm like sure of course that's understandable. I waited 1 hour & 32mins exactly after that. I'm finally Next, this guy walks up sits down next to me . I walk up b/c it's obviously my turn. The guy the "random guy" says " I had an appointment at 4pm ". The barber says "I have to take him man " . I'm like buts it's already 5:15pm. So he rudely disregards my waiting and patience, and takes on another individual bluntly. I have never been so disrespected publicly at a shop. I advised all friend/colleagues/ and family to never recommend this place. As well anyone even reading this . Please and trust me save your precious time and valuable hard...
