One of the activities that my wife, kids and I partook in while on our mini-vacation in Lancaster PA was to take an Amish buggy ride. It was a new experience for all of us. I was lucky enough to grow up around race horses and really miss those days and the kids just thought it was the coolest thing ever to be pulled around by a horse rather than ride in a car. Once we decided which route we would take which turned out to be one that lasted about an hour, went by some Amish farms and then stopped by a bakery before coming back. I don't remember exactly, however I think it was about $130-$140 for the 4 of us, well worth it. Our driver was a friendly gentleman named Paul and he was very professional, great to talk to and also knowledgeable about the area farms that we passed by on our trip. When we stopped by the bakery we were not rushed at all and had ample time to walk around. We also got a real neat surprise when we passed an small plane airport along our route he stopped the buggy and said I think I hear a plane coming and next thing you know a plane came in just feet above us and landed on the runway that was just yards from the road we were on. LOL almost seemed planed but maybe we were just lucky. The other cool part about Abe's Buggy Rides is the they have a petting zoo to visit either while you waiting to leave or when you get back. In Lancaster there are lots of establishments that offer buggy rides but I recommend Abe's, it was a great time that my family thoroughly enjoyed from...
Read moreI went to this place twice. The first time, our driver was an old yet honorable man named Sam. We took the 3 miles trip. During the trip, sam told us so many things about Amish country, farms, culture, their professions, etc. Sam even let my 6 year old niece drive. It was a very beautiful day out. No rain just sun. The perfect conditions. Very nice trip overall, no complaints.
During our second time going here, we had a man named Paul. He was very nice, respectful, and caring and even, as the first time, let my 6 year old niece drive. During our 2nd time, we took the 1 hour route, which grants you the way to an Amish bakery/gift shop. We got to spend 15 minutes there. Paul was very nice. Like always, he talked to us about the culture of the Amish, their jobs, living, etc. Luckily, during our drive, we ran into 2 Amish boys selling painted horseshoes. Paul let us stop to buy a horseshoe. Very nice. Supporting local business and kids. The 2nd trip was amazing and yet again, I have no complaints. All of the staff was nice. If I keep coming to Lancaster, I’ll forever and always choose Abe’s buggy services.
The one thing you may find a little concerning, are the prices. But due to the maintenance of the horses, goats and ponies, it’s understandable and I hold nothing against that. It’s just like all other businesses. Other than that, everything was just perfect. Keep up the good work to everyone working there!!! Y’all did a...
Read moreWonderful buggy ride for our family of five. Little feeding/petting animal area, swing set for kids and plenty of seating while waiting. All staff SUPER friendly- chatted with is while we waiting and pwt someof the horses. I called before going and the woman was extremely helpful answering my questions. They accept credit cards and have an actual restroom. No foods to purchase but did have a few amish handcrafted items to purchase. We waited about 40 min. but it went by quickly. Our drivers name was Ervan and he was 83 years old and had been driving for 30 years. Our horses name was Jewel. Ervan was VERY friendly and encouraged both of our young kids to sit up front with him. He let my 7y.o. take the reigns for a bit. Ervan shared a wealth of information about the Amish, Lancaster and farming. His family was Amish when he was a child but left the community for personal reasons. Ervan has 5 children and 15 grandchildren!!! We took the 3 mile ride and it was the perfect amount of time (30 min). So happy we went to Abes, we would absolutely go again! (We were planning to go to another place but they only had wagons and advertised they accepted credit cards but actually didn't. They also weren't as friendly and seemed over...
