The Trains themsselves were very nice and nostalgic. The engineers and conductors were pleasant and easy to talk to. Thats the good.
We rode on a Saturday and boarded on at Elegant Farmer. We were told that the trains were very busy but all was working well and we would not have difficulty. 1st. There is no direction on the loading platform, either from signs or guides. So you could be the 1st passengers in line but depending on the actual train/trolley you may or not be first boarded. This is important because if you have a larger group you may have to wait for the next train due to too many passengers being boarded on the existing train. 2nd. No one really knows what is going on! We were told 4 different things about our arrival and departure. 3rd. I ended up getting an Uber to bring me back to Elegant Farmer to pickup my vehicle and drive back to East Troy to retrieve my family due to the trains being overbooked and the wait time. We were told at 4pm it would be 6pm before we could go back.......schedule was all screwd up! 4th. Price! $12.50 per adult, $8.50 per child 3-15. This was not cheap for our family and the terrible confusion and uncertainty added to the unreasonable delay just made it worse! Would not recommend anyone go on this when there are crowds. The management clearly has no experience with scheduling and...
Read moreThis is a wonderful museum showcasing the electric railroad of the area. There is a small but wonderfully curated museum and a gift shop with something for everyone. The museum is free to visit but there is a cost to ride the electric train (absolutely worth it!) You purchase tickets for the train ride at a very neat train ticket counter. There are restrooms and picnic areas. Enjoy the museum and grounds while you wait for the next tram. They usually have two different cars going at staggered departure times. The tram stops at a neat local store called The Elegant Farmer (the baked goods are so good!) You can get off there and pick up the tram again on its way back or you can stay on and ride to the end where the tram switches direction to come back to The Elegant Farmer before going back to the station. There are many cool things to see on the trip, and there is a docent on board who points things out, tells the history, and answers any questions. The whole trip took about an hour and a half. Afterwards, be sure to take another trip back in time and visit the historic ice cream parlor...
Read moreGreat place for the family and kids to enjoy. Volunteers help run the events and manage the museum and trains. They host great special events throughout the year. One of the train ushers is great with the knowledge and history and shared a bit of background with our party. The museum is free. However, donations help them run the operations. There's a gift shop and history within the same building. You can ring the bell at the front door, which the Little ones likes to do. Default visiting the Elegant Farmer for the destination or if it's a special event, whatever is outlined in the event you purchased tickets for. I love their newspaper for the area. Give it a read like the old days when newspapers were a thing. It has a nostalgic feel to it. Ample parking to the north of the museum and some spots out front. Recommend to get there early or take the morning trains as items at the Elegant Farmer sell out towards the end of the day. I hope we can enjoy the ETRM for years to come. I highly recommend you take your...
