I debated sharing this because I donāt want anyone not going to a dog shelter. But I had such a bad experience here and I still think about it. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one is because there was one gentleman that was incredibly nice to me and very professional. When I asked him if I could meet one of the dogs, he was very excited when I went to the front desk to arrange an appointment She like didnāt let me see any of the dogs. She had an attitude the entire time. And while itās important to go over the negatives of the dog It felt less like letting me know about it and more like she was trying to talk me out of meeting any of the dogs. Because even though I wouldāve been perfectly equipped to go through the process of training these dogs of seeing if they even are a good fit for my home, I didnāt even know that part before she started talking me out of getting dogs that she had decided wasnāt for me. Which I can only attribute to either being Because Iām on the younger side which Iām really not Iām almost 30. Or it was homophobia cause I happen to be with another woman when I was there. It felt less like the knowledge she was sharing with me wasnāt to share with me and more to be used like a weapon, which I donāt think should be at a shelter. These dogs deserve a chance to go to a good home. I live on 3 acres of land my dogs go to the vet regularly. I keep them very well groomed. I I feed them the best food, including human grade real food. So I donāt appreciate being treated like a dog abuser because thatās what it felt like before she even knew anything about me. To rub salt in the wound, I had just lost my dog of 13 years and I was Trying to take the first steps to getting another dog and this sent me back a good couple of months. When I did eventually get a dog, I went to paws in Coronado. Everyone was incredibly friendly, incredibly ready to give me the information about the dogs without treating me like Iām not supposed to be there. I got a beautiful malinois. But I still think about that pitbull that somebody that knows nothing about me decided I shouldnāt get based off nothing. Maybe others have better experiences, but this one was literally traumatic for me. I will never be going back to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAwful service, awful surroundings, and rude people. We walked in hoping to adopt a larger dog even though we live in an apartment. Now I knew we would probably get questioned about it but I still expected they'd at least hear us out and let us explain at least that we still had plenty of space to keep a large dog happy. Call me naive I guess. So still under the pretense I could get a large dog we went to look at the kennels well here is surprise number one. Awful living conditions. I mean this was appalling. I felt so awful for the poor dogs and came across this 8 year old german shepherd. When I went to ask if we could see him they immediately told us no as we lived in an apartment and that'd be unfair to the dog so we go and look at this other dog that is smaller. Medium sized and 3 years old. They again tell us no as it'll grow. Okay at 3? It's medium and will remain medium but they apparently felt we should only have a small dog even though I wanted a guard dog. We left and came across the Chula Vista Animal Facility. They were so sweet. They let us explain that my husband is deploying and I want a guard dog. We were led to the kennels that were so much nicer and were allowed to socialize with an adorable 1 year old German Shepherd. We adopted him with no trouble. They explained how to live in an apartment with a large dog and were very helpful. And they charge less than El Cajon too! I'd recommend forget El Cajon and go to Chula Vista as El Cajon is prejudiced against anyone that doesn't own their own house. Catch that I said OWN. Not rent. The only good thing I found at El Cajon was the directions to Chula Vista. Thank you Chula Vista for caring for it's dogs...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDO NOT AFFILIATE WITH THIS SHELTER My boyfriend and I were looking to rehome a new pet into our loving home. We had put in an application for a dog and called the shelter the next day to set up a consultation to speak to the representative about the dog. The lady on the phone assured us that we were the first couple to call about this furbaby and that there would be no issue at all on us being first in line to speak to the dog trainer the next day. She then proceeded to tell us we had called at a perfect time and the next opening to speak to a dog trainer wouldnāt be for another couple weeks. We had scheduled our appointment for the next day and she told us she would give us a call if there was a cancellation earlier so we could get on the phone with the trainer earlier. The next day rolls around and we were waiting patiently for a phone call from the trainer, 30 minutes go by and still hadnāt heard anything. They finally gave us a call and had told us they had already found a new home for the dog. We told the dog trainer that we were assured we were the ONLY couple to call about this animal. She then said there must have been a mistake & sounded like she could care less about the situation. Dont get me wrong, we are happy to know that the dog was happily rehomed. But the communication could have definitely been a lot better, and they shouldnāt get peopleās hopes up like that. It all seems sketchy and unprofessional. So please be aware, and know there are other shelters who would gladly work with you better then this shelter...
