Mivia Fabrics is located at the same site as McGowen's Fabric Outlet.
I went to Mivia Fabrics about a year ago with a friend to check the store out. It has been renovated and has plenty of fabric selections. The store was well lit, clean and good air quality.
Midway the store are a few ailses of vertical racks with bolts of fabric on horizontal rollers. With these, you can pull down the amount you need and cut straight across.
Off to the sides are stacked and upright bolts you can pull out and take to the lady up front (or she'll do it).
In back of the free-standing racks are lace and other specialty fabrics on hangers or something. That area is my favorite spot! There, I saw scrumptious lace remnants and beautiful fabric prints (some embroidered) that can be used for curtains. The embroidered lace in this area and on the racks were so lovely: Rose pinks, purple, red, brown, navy and more!
I am definitely going back to Mivia to get more lace. But fair warning! Many of the items are pricey. The lace I adored were in the $25 per yard range, BUT I thought them worth the price (I'm using the lace to make drawstring bags. I'll still be able to make a decent profit from them). Some fabrics are much higher. But you probably can find bolts for mere $s. I bought a lightweight cotton for $2 a yard. No damage to it and great as a bag lining for the lace I bought.
They have upholstery fabric, thin or thick foam, appliques, not a good selection of thread IMO, cottons, a few gadgets, zippers (long ones avail) and trims. I feel their prices on most items are too high when you could go to Walmart and get them cheaper. However, Mivia has a few unique items unavailable at other stores.
My friend discovered a set of 4 or so stairs tucked away in a corner at the "back" of the store (on the lefthand side). We went up them into a doorless room STUFFED with more bolts of fabric! Yum!! In this room are older designs but more recent designs, too. OMG! We were surprised to see so many stacks of bolts. I have to visit that room again. This area is slightly dimmer and is clearly older, but it is a treasure trove, nonetheless.
My interaction with the person in attendance was of mixed quality. That day, she was a little inattentive at first--too interested in her cellphone, couldn't answer inquiries about certain things. But she was probably bored. She was Never Rude in any way and was quite pleasant after a short while (must not be a morning person). It seemed that she perked up 🙂 when she saw I was spending decent money. Hahaha. She gave me a discount on a sizable remnant of pretty chocolate brown lace with coppery gold embroidery. 😘
Overall, me and my friend had a really good visit to Mivia, and I will absolutely be a return customer.
4 star rating because attendant wasn't helpful when I first arrived, and because the prices aren't...
Read moreThe person that works there is so extremely rude. I went there from Woodbridge to see what they had. I was looking for outdoor fabrics. When I get there, the attendant said that she will be with me soon. I was waiting and she never came. A guy came in and he even apologized to me because she decided to help him before me even though I was there before him. When he leaves she says that she will search for some information that he needed and while I’m there in front of her, she gets on the phone to seek the info for the guy and completely ignores me.
People should be grateful customers come to their stores and treat them with respect.
I will not give this business my money. I prefer to pay more to get a better service. I went to Hobby Lobby and bought great...
Read moreI was looking for a fabric store that was closer to me than the Fabric Warehouse (which I adore). So I spotted this business a few times & decided to go in today. I must say they do have a large selection of fabric but I was looking for muslin or cheap fabric to use to make a rough draft of a pattern. It was only one type of muslin to choose from that was $6 per yard & when I asked the two ladies at the front counter if they had a sale section of fabric. One simply said the cheapest fabric was the cotton section right in the left corner of the counter. They didn't seem eager to help or to make any suggestions so I felt like I was bothering them. I won't be returning to this location unless i desperate for an item and i can't drive to Walmart or to The...
