San Elijo State Beach — Attraction in Encinitas

IF.... And that's a huge IF, you can get a bluff reservation, there's no place better.

Unfortunately the reservation system is sooooooooooooo jacked you'll see empty spot after empty spot which is infuriating when you go to reserve California and everything is booked the next 3 months. Ridiculous is the only word for it. Figure out a system to free up the no shows!!

Great showers that cost way more than they should, good bathrooms and rinse stations.

Very few hookup spots and the generator use is severely limited.

If you are fortunate enough to get a bluff spot, enjoy and savor the time. You are one of the lucky.

Oh and also there's no campground store. No Bull taco either. Remnants of when it was special... Gone but never forgotten. RIP Bull Taco.

PS some of my photos are of EMPTY SPOTS that were there for over 2 days. Shame shame...

Very nice campground with most of the standard amenities; full hookups available, shower house, etc... Walking distance to groceries, coffee, cafes, and shops. Getting a spot that overlooks the ocean makes a tremendous difference in how much ocean you hear vs highway noise, so it’s definitely worth getting one of those spots if you can. Reservations required and they have a strict no-entry before 2pm on the day your reservation...

Really pretty beach. It looked like it would be a great place to tide pool, and there were quite a few little hermit crabs in really pretty shells, but otherwise I only saw one anemone and not much else living there- but it may have just been timing. Great beach for walking, it seems like you could walk a really long distance. There were quite a few...
