I cannot say enough good things about Pirate's Cove! Of course, it's a great water park with fun options for the kids and it's well maintained.
But what really makes it stand out is the life guards. I won't take my kids to any of the Denver rec center pools anymore because their life guards are inadequate. Too few, not well trained. The life guards at Englewood Rec center and Pirate's Cove are phenomenal. Drownings are way too common but I'm not worried about that happening here. Of course, I always keep my eyes on the water if my kids are in the deeper pool and when my kids were younger they were always within my reach. But things happen so fast! But these life guards are faster.
They have lots of life guards so every bit of water is watched at all times. I've seen two rescues of kids who were struggling and one practice rescue and the guards are so fast and good at what they do. They also have a good system for keeping watch of the rest of the pool while having floating supervisor guards who can come in moments. The guards aren't there for a good time. They are carefully scanning at all times, enforce all safety rules consistently, but are always kind and helpful.
My child is really shy but is never afraid to approach a guard with a question. They also have a great system for the slides to make sure the line moves quickly but the pool is always clear. If you aren't sure which slide is for you, the guard at the top of the slides is a great resource with information.
The atmosphere is upbeat and fun. The young people who work there are all polite and cheerful. I've never once had a negative interaction with anyone. On a rare occasion, I have seen them deal with rude kids or adults and they have handled it well, not being snots, just politely and kindly enforcing the rules that keep us all safe.
They've got the kind of fun food you'd expect for a day out with your kids. It's about the same price or less than you'd find at comparable places. For kids who are done with the water, the sand area is really, really deep so even my tween still enjoys playing there sometimes.
The people who come here are generally great. It's sweet seeing how everyone works together to get tubes out of the lazy river and to whoever is at the front of the line when there's a line. I often come with just my tween and there are always other kids to have fun with while going down the slides.
We have a family pass and I work from home so once I'm done with meetings and my kids have finished instrument practice, chores, etc, we head over to Pirate's Cove several afternoons a week. As long as my kids are in the lazy river or on the slides (all strong swimmers and tall enough to stand in the lazy river), I pull out my laptop and get a couple hours of work done there in the shade on a lounge chair. I use my phone for Wi-Fi and wear earbuds with music if I really need to focus. But it's become our favorite family tradition.
We can't wait to do it all...
Read moreDo not waste your money here. There are plenty of other water parks in Colorado. Their employees are extremely rude. Starting from the entry level employee to the management. Jason is the manager yet he has no empathy or reasoning behind any situation and is quick to put the blame on his employee Sabrina. I went in on a Wednesday it was 80 degrees out. When we came out of the dressing room it suddenly became windy. We immediately went to the front desk to get a time stamp to come back another day. Considering we have a 1 1/2 year old. We were denied a time stamp and told we had to deal with the weather . We walked into the pool and the water was freezing. I got up and went to the window again. I told Sabrina hey I have a baby the water is freezing can we please have a time stamp. She said No . I asked to speak to a supervisor and she said supervisors were gone for the day. Took down my contact information. I then asked if there was a way for them to adjust the temperature on the pool. She said she didn’t know & obviously didn’t care since she wasn’t the one inside the pool. It is Sunday and nobody has called me back. I call and the first person to answer sounds like (Sabrina entry level employee) I said are you a supervisor she said yes. I then said I was there on Wednesday and I haven’t received a call. She said oh hold on let me get someone on the line. What? I thought you said you were a supervisor!? Supervisor comes on the line tells me how Sabrina is a “new employee and how she needs training and doesn’t know all the policies “ Yet on Wednesday they trusted her to stay alone at the front desk. I did get super upset at listening to her lie to me. So in a polite manner asked to speak to someone above her. That’s when I got Jason on the line (rudeness at it’s finest) Told me the exact same thing the previous supervisor said putting the blame on his new employee and telling me he can’t control the weather. LoL I never asked for god to come on the line. Just someone to show some empathy for wasting my money and dealing with careless humans. Nope he did the complete opposite by upsetting me even more . He told me the water is kept at 80 degrees . So I’m just complaining for no reason. Oh so when it’s super hot the water is warm and stays warm in case of weather change ? Hahaha who are you kidding. Oh and to put the cherry on top he told me he was there on Wednesday. Oh so you were doing something else instead of assisting customers which is what you’re role entails!? LoL NEVER...
Read morePaid about $120 for entry for myself, my wife , and our 4 daughters (all under 10) and I just have to share this wild experience. I went to the concession stand and spent another $80 just told be told my smoothie will take a little bit after was handed everything else, so I politely ask “How long?” Then expressed my wife is watching the kids and it’s for her , this high school girl looked at me and said I really have no idea …… so now not only am I lost and confused as to how that’s possible , I may be a chef at a fine dining resort and I’m not expecting Michelin star quality at a waterpark but to not even know how long until a drink is ready is wild…. Pre made at that… then the life guards are yelling and blowing whistles every 5 seconds to a point where my daughter cried and it takes a lot to make a happy go lucky 10 year old cry especially on her birthday. Plenty of these high school kids that run this place definitely need to be retrained and taught how to handle a little authority and be reminded of the environment they work in. I paid over $200 for my family to be insulted , made to feel bad for things that they were doing even though it was just kids being kids. My daughters are well behaved and know how to have a good time while being respectful, constantly blowing a whistle at one of them while they’re already doing what they were told to do is unacceptable and this will be the last time this sub-par water park gets more of my hard earned money just for there to always be a problem with our kids playing. We did t see the life guards say anything to the other 10 kids who “Used the wrong staircase” or “Didn’t get out of the pool fast enough after the slide or diving board” my wife was a sea world trainer and dealt with life guards on a much larger scale and we know misconduct when we see it. If you’re bringing kids that are older then 10 DONT ! They won’t have fun or be able to be kids …. If you bring kids UNDER 10 watch them closely because of the behavior of the lifeguards and...
