If you're a born and raised Texan, you already know our state flower is the BLUEBONNET! If are new to Texas, see previous sentence! You can see them all over the state but the major spot to enjoy them is Ennis, TX (45mins- depending on traffic-southeast of Dallas). The blooms start to appear after the last frost and come to full blossom until the end of April/beginning of May. When you arrive, go to the Visitors Center first. The friendly folks there will give you a trail map and a bit of history at the same time. This is not a hurried experience so make sure you use the facilities before you depart. Take a cooler of water because Texas can be a little toasty this time of year. Luckily, my visit wasn't! While you're out there, stop at the winery for some refreshments. You won't be disappointed in their selections! Also, PLEASE DO NOT WALK, STAND, OR SIT ON THE BLUEBONNETS IN UNDESIGNATED AREAS. You will come home smiling and feeling rested though you...

Read moreWe were in Texas for the eclipse, but timed it just perfectly for the bluebonnets to be in full bloom. The bluebonnet trail in Ennis exceeded all of our expectations, what a beautiful and friendly little town. We had looked at the visitors bureau map online and also stopped into the visitors center for a physical map. We were running out of daylight, and the visitor center staff recommended the northern loop around tiny Bristol which was just beautiful. Gorgeous flower fields and the prettiest homes. There were a number of families and would be influencers in flowing dresses taking pictures. Sadly the Belgian horses were not out in their field that evening. I definitely want to come back and spend more time to explore. The scale of the map was larger than I expected, it's quite an...
