I highly recommend Microtech! Larry is extremely knowledgeable and really knows his stuff! My teen daughter purchased her first car, a used 2005 Honda Accord, but after only one week, her audio system in the car stopped working. The Honda dealership was no help as they were more interested in replacing the entire unit for thousands of dollars. That's when I found Larry at Microtech Audio Repair! Best call I ever made. Just from my initial phone call with Larry, he was able to pinpoint what he suspected was wrong with my unit. Larry explained everything with such clear understanding and expertise that I knew I was in good hands from the start. I immediately brought my daughter's car into Larry where he spent quite a deal of time locating the codes for the audio system (we didn't get those either with the purchase of the car) by removing the entire unit from the dash. He determined the problem was most likely with the DVD navigation system located in the trunk of the vehicle and gave me advice as to what my options were to repair it since this particular DVD unit is no longer being made. Larry walked me through a plan for repair from a third-party source and assisted me with the process of what I needed to do. He helpfully gave me his opinion as to what made the most sense for me to get the issue resolved, then told me to bring the unit back to him for installation once it was ready. Once I came back to see him with the repaired unit, Larry quickly installed the DVD unit into the car and set the codes for me. He only charged me the very reasonable and fair price for the original diagnostic visit, even though he worked on my stereo issues two other times. My daughter's audio system is now working great, and my family will be bringing all of our car audio repairs to Larry at Microtech from now on. My daughter and I are so appreciative of the honest and reliable service Larry provided, and we recommend Microtech for all of your car stereo repairs...
Read moreSeveral years ago I went to this place to have my subwoofer removed from one car and installed in another. I had monster cables in place between the stereo and the subwoofer, installed by Best Buy years earlier. I thought for this simple transfer job I would give a local shop a try. Big mistake!
Long story short, I was changing out the stereo on my car many years later and discovered he had apparently severed the monster cables and spliced a cheap RCA cable onto the end in its place. Of course he never let me know this happened otherwise I would've demanded he fix it with new cables free of charge. Incredibly dishonest, incompetent, and shady. I swear he had his young daughter there as a gimmick to make himself seem trustworthy. I feel so bad about the whole experience I don't even want to contact him for an explanation. He'd probably just claim not to know anything about it anyway. But hey if he is reading this feel free to find my info in your records and reach out to me.
Monster cables aren't cheap. This guy treated them like they were garbage and didn't tell me he screwed them up. I'll stick with best buy from now on. At least they're pretty honest about stuff and have someone to answer to, not to mention they're probably insured to cover mistakes (doubt this place is). This guy makes small businesses look bad. Maybe give others a try but definitely stay away from this horrible place. They shouldn't even be in business if they can't admit mistakes and do right...
Read moreBeware. I rarely take the time to write a review but I hope to prevent anyone else from having the experience I did. I took my vintage Kenwood amp for repair and paid the $40 cost for diagnosis. After over a week with no calls returned I went back to the shop and was told by the owner that he was looking for parts but very vague on the actual problem. I waited another two weeks and again no calls returned. I made a another trip down fully intending on picking up my valuable equipment finished or not. He had the amp sitting there and told me it was too expensive to repair without even giving me the diagnosis or cost and after telling me parts were on order. I believe he was in over his head and would not admit it. I had even had to provided him with technical manuals that he couldn't seem to find from his "professional" resources. The owner seemed kind of disconnected on both occasions. The bottom line is, NEVER again. I then took the amp to Classic Audio Repair in San Diego where they diagnosed the problem on the spot, gave me a time frame for repair and had the work completed for $225 including the diagnostic fee. They contacted me the day before the actual due date letting me know it was completed. I hope this helps anyone out there with valuable classic audio equipment. The drive to San Diego is well worth the high quality and knowledgeable, ...
