I can't speak to what it is like to shop in the store during the pandemic -- my rating and this review are based on my recent experiences with the store (since March 2020, because prior to that I shopped almost exclusively at the Market of Choice). I really (really!) appreciate the "curbside pickup" service, as well as all of the work they put into the online shopping cart. I have watched it develop over the last few months (in the early days it was a bit difficult to find some items and it was sometimes a little glitchy, but now it's great). I was impressed that they put the time into improving it, particularly since there is no fee for the service. The staff members who call to tell me about out-of-stock items and possible substitutions have been friendly and patient. When I arrive for pickup, there is no contact with the staff... I just pop the trunk, they load the bags/boxes, we wave, and I'm on my way. So far all of my items have been in excellent condition. Each time I go to the remote shopping page to place an order, I'm worried that it will say they are no longer providing the service (especially as restrictions in Oregon are lifted). I hope they keep it! I encourage everyone who feels uncomfortable shopping in such a small store to take them up on their offer to do your shopping for you. I'm not sure how the employees feel about the time it takes to fill these orders, but I feel like it is better for me AND for them if I spend money there while not physically going...
Read moreWithout contest, Sundance is the best health food store in Eugene.
A delightfully laid back, cozy grocery that covers all the bases, and as a bonus, has an actually decent, entirely organic hot and cold food bar – which has half-off pricing at the end of the day too! (For folks who don't yet know: Whole Foods' hot and cold bars are almost never organic and are generally far from it.)
The produce section at Sundance is exceptionally strong, boasting a diverse (and again, all organic) selection including many otherwise hard-to-find things like glasswort and Grimes Golden apples. And then, of course, their very well-stocked discount produce shelf limits waste and provides for those on tighter budgets (though they could certainly stand to be marked down quite a bit more, especially considering the condition of some items).
Their bulk selection is extensive, taking up a good percentage of the store, with items ranging from basic grains to vanilla extract. Very refreshing to see that the majority of their bulk herbs come from Mountain Rose Herbs, a local Eugene-based company & one of our absolute favourites.
Other highlights are: unforced hippie vibes, vinegar being featured in the housecleaning section, a better-than-average kombucha selection, a well-curated body care department, and fresh local baked goods up by...
Read moreI don’t think I’ve ever had a worse experience at a grocery store. We walked in and it was busy which should be a good sign. But at the very onset we were huffed at by every employee like we were in there way. The isles are very narrow and I understand that since you have packed a lot into the space you have available. But to be huffed at and be rude for trying to look at anything is unacceptable. Furthermore when we went to check out the cashier not only spent 5 mins having a conversation with the gentleman in line in front of us as we waited but there were more than us waiting to check out. Once we finally made it to her she was beyond rude didn’t say hello threw out grocery’s and made rude faces at every single item. Like we had interrupted a conversation and how dare we have the audacity to say hello smile and pay for something. Then when we went to leave after she rudely told us to take our card out she threw the receipt at us and then as we walked out just yelled “there’s more buttons” over and over until we signed the receipt, which is fine but how rude can one person be? Everyone just goto Capella’s market, they’re friendly and have reasonable isles. Avoid this place...
