For a summary to the people who dont want to read the whole review: you're better off spending your money somewhere else to get good food. Food lacked flavor and character, and was way overpriced for the poor quality it actually was.
My boyfriend and I went here to try something new, and honestly we were very sad and disappointed after leaving. All we heard were good things about this place and it seriously did not live up to our expectations.
Our order was as follows: biscuits and gravy with a side of "homestyle fries", an omelette, a french dip sandwich with a side of salad, and a "rustic" turkey sandwich (I believe that's what it was called.)
I originally came there to try the biscuits and gravy, and upon getting my plate, the food was room temperature and the gravy was bland. I didn't finish it. The "homestyle fries" were just mushy sliced potatoes that may or may not have been fried, I honestly couldnt tell. I tried the french dip sandwich, hoping it would be good enough to save for lunch later, and that was also extremely bland and room temp. The salad was also really weird, as it had chickpeas and 5 really huge slices of pickled beets on top??? Maybe I didnt read the menu close enough but that caught me off guard honestly and was gross😭 My boyfriend's turkey sandwich was literally just sliced packaged bread that was put through the toaster once and then sliced lunch meats and probably old pre-sliced cheese that had been in the fridge for a long time. Nothing about it screamed rustic as I probably could have made a better sandwich at my house with fresher ingredients. It tasted weird. He ordered a side of fries with his sandwich and they were unsalted skinny white sticks of potatoes, which looked like they were just prepackaged frozen fries that they decided to serve. The only good item was the omelette and even that was pretty forgettable. I really wish we had taken photos of this meal because it was pretty laughable, especially the sandwiches. But we were kind of busy sulking and trying to convince ourselves the food was actually okay. It was not.
And just to add on to the poor experience, we were ignored when we came in. When we arrived, we were standing in line waiting to be seated (as expected). The line moved fairly quick, and once we were at the front of the line, we waited to be helped by the hostess standing in front of us. We stood for about 4 minutes and were not acknowledged until a lady from the back of the line walked all the way up and cut in front of us and asked to be put on the seating list. The hostess then ignored us, put her on the list before us, and then asked us "are you not on the list?" Like no...? we have been standing here waiting to be seated. The woman who rudely walked up from the back of the line ended up getting seated before we did. I guess rude customers are valued more at this place 😂
I'm just upset at how many good reviews there are for this place because we were seriously mislead into thinking we were going to have an amazing meal. Dunno what happened. Go to denny's you'll probably get a better plate of food for half the...
Read moreThe Glenwood on Willamette has been around for years & years. The one thing you can ALWAYS rely on, is the best quality ingredients & the greatest quality of service. Today my Son had the Montana omelette with free side of bacon & a free gluten free roll. My Daughter in Law had the Monterey Omelette, with a side of Kale & fresh pineapple. The Kale was steamed to perfection, she only needed to add salt & pepper to her liking. She said her Omelette was the best Omelette she's ever had. I helped her with her huge chunk of Pineapple & it was super fresh, tasted like we were on an island & had just cracked it open. My Son raved about his Montana Omelette, saying it was huge, eggs cooked perfectly, the generous fillings were feta cheese, garlic, sauteed mushrooms & that the spinach, was the freshest he's had in any Omelette. He opted to substitute Feta cheese, for the cheddar cheese listed. He loved his gluten free roll & after he slathered it in butter & jam, he was literally drooling, once he had a bite. Lol. He loves high quality tastiness. I was going to get the European scramble at first, but I haven't had pancakes in forever! So, I opted for the Pancake Sampler. It came with 3 giant pancakes! Oh my gosh, I guess I should have read the menu better. I couldn't begin to eat them all. The pancakes were that amazing consistency that you just can't get when making them at home. Not sweet either, which made me happy. So many of the chain restaurants pancakes, are sugary sweet, yuck. My 2 pieces of bacon were crispy, just as I asked & they did my eggs correctly!!! Thats big points in my book, since I always order my eggs, over hard, pop the yolks. I ate one pancake with just butter, because thats what I do. Then I ate half of a second pancake, by putting my egg on top, adding heavy pepper, light salt & drowning it all with Maple Syrup. I have been doing this since childhood & I love how the flavers mingle so well. I will be full until tomorrow! The sweet & GORGEOUS lady who seated us, made a pot of decaf, brought us menus & water, her name is Ginger & she has the most wonderful presence, sunshiny aura & a face that smiles through her mask. Our server Josh B. was very attentive, enjoyed helping us & was quick with anything we needed. He was also expert, at not making us wait, between decaf refills. He brought Almond milk at my kids request & cream for me. Plenty of sugar in the raw too. He was adorable & very pleasant. If you want excellent everything at a restaurant, please consider The Glenwood. Its been a constant in Eugene & theres good reason for that. They have a tent with heaters, for outdoor dining, if we still continue in this Covid seating environment. The kids are going back for Steak & Ahi Tuna...
Read moreBreakfast on a Sunday. We did not find a no near entrance parking spot. But, that was because the place was busy. They don't take call in reservations It’s on a first come, first serve basis, only. The nice Hostess stood outside to tell folks waiting to get in that there is probably a "15-30 minute wait for indoor seating" "...but there is a few outside tables for 2, available now, if the occasional hornets don't bother you." Note: Outside chairs are very flat and hard. I did appreciate that Hostess helped us out by finding us a nice booth for me in only 15 min, because she saw I was on crutches and in pain and waiting in line would be difficult.
Service was great. Took me a bit to read menu options as it was my first time in over 30 years since I went a Glenwood restaurant. No pictures on menus so I did as waiter for help. I just got 2 eggs and home fries and biscuit, but my friend got some kind of Spanish breakfast cheese(?) omelet with her choice of fillings. it was served with pinto beans, sides of salsa, sour cream. Serving sizes were fine. Food was hot and cooked well. But my friend said she wished that the veggies were cooked into the eggs and not just inside plain eggs. The original Glenwood cooks used to do it better. She ordered a blueberry muffin and of course like everything, lately, was smaller in size than it used to be. Our server made sure we had glasses full and coffee and creamer. and made sure everything was fine, without bring intrusive. .I appreciated that despite them being busy, that in no way did we feel rushed out of there. I was treated here by an old friend who drove from California to visit for a day. And it was nice to not feel rushed out. Waiter quickly, (upon request) brought my friend a cardboard takeout box for her unfinished meal. Brought out ticket and asked if we needed to divide meal costs...or not. So basically he was on top of things. As a server in my past...I was happy to see/have this, today. But, as others mentioned...Acoustics is not ideal in there...People talking over each other pretty loudly, made it hard to hear others who are at your table. Reading lips skills can be helpful, for sure here. Or just do extensive, socializing conversation,...
