Amira is a small corner-grocery that sells kosher, halal and Russian foods.
I like to go to Amira if I need to quickly pick up some dairy. They always have a good variety of milk (including organic), eggs, kefir, cheeses and butter. You can also find some meats, vegetables, fruits, a variety of spices (get your za'atar and ras al hanout here), nuts, dried fruit, cookies and halva.
We love their Turkish pita. It seems to be delivered regularly, if not daily. When I pick up the package, it's always warm and fluffy. The taste and texture is wonderful. Be quick, they sell out fast - you can find the pita on the table as you walk in through the front door.
Some reviews may concentrate on negatives, however, I'd like to focus on some of instances of the owner's kindness.
One time I lost my wallet and I believed that it was in the vicinity of Amira. I called and the owner said that it wasn't inside the store, but he would send one of his employees out to look outside, in front. They did find it, kept it for me and I went to retrieve it intact.
Another time, my wife and daughter went to Amira after soccer practice and so my daughter was still in her uniform and cleats. The owner noticed, said he was a big fan of soccer and after some kind words, gave her some candy for free.
Today, my wife went to get our favorite Turkish pita and noted his positive attitude. He was excited that she happened to arrive just on time, after delivery and said that it was the best time to get it.
There may be some "negatives" at Amira, but its these kind words and actions, these positive experiences that keep me returning to support the owner and his...
Read moreIt's a terrible place. Disgusting attitude towards customers. We bought condensed milk at this store. It turned out to be filled with glass fragments. My daughter swallowed one, thinking it was a large sugar crystal. I contacted the store owner about this. And it wasn't even about compensation. I informed him about the incident and suggested that he withdraw all this product from sale because it is dangerous. He refused! It turns out he bought a lot of it. And so he will lose the profit. No questions like "how is your daughter feeling, is everything okay, or does she need help?" No! no respect, no courtesy. All worries are only about profit. He accused me that it was my glass and offered to solve the problem myself. Or take another can for free. In the first minutes of the conversation, he was lying on the couch in his office. And I was standing next to him, holding a can of condensed milk and a glass in my hands. When the conversation reached a dead end, I headed for the exit and stopped on the way to take a picture of the shelf with this product. That alone made him get his ass off the couch and run after me. He shouted that he was against taking photos in his store. And he started filming me. Such people should be judged. They are dangerous to society. All the bad reviews about this place are true. You could only buy canned food there without fear. But now even the canned food is filled with glass or expired. Of course, I will inform everyone who can influence this. If the store is going to be closed soon, don't worry. We won't lose much. Stay safe
Read moreIt’s nice to have such a store around , with ok prices . The problem is that you have to check the dates on everything because it’s easy to buy an expired product in that store . And if I needed to return something even a few hours afterwords it was a big deal , I bought a drink yogurt that did not expire but was bad for some reason . the person at the register was trying to tell me that that it’s how a Goat yogurt should taste like , I said no way it’s sour and fuzzy, bubbly. She had to contact the owner who asked a lot of questions. It was for $1.80 . And this was the 3rd time I bought a bad or an expired item I did not know . Owner is a bit rude when it comes to returns and gave me hard time in the past . I have hummus I bought last week and I noticed it’s been expired 2 weeks ago , but because of the owners attitude I am going to put it in the garbage and not buy there anything that can go...
