Awesome all around, I particularly love their salads. I have been going there for over 20 years and not one time did it not stand up to its standards. The last time however, three days ago was the ABSOLUTE BEST TIME EVER(!!!). This famous diner, now under new owners OUDID ITSELF just one more time. I ordered the Cesar salad and my partner had the Greek salad and I could not believe my eyes when I saw the plates delivered- they were HUGE. The size of these salads were just mind blowing amd highly impressive and it did not end here. The salads were DELICIOUS!!! Super fresh lettuce/ perfectly fresh ingredients. Simply- awesome all around. Late night or early in the morning that’s always a great place to eat. Their menu is huge, service is great and prices still reasonable. I am now officially comparing to the iconic Tick Tock on 46, which was always the staple for the most amazing food and a large menu and the Tick Tock does NOT COME CLOSE. Their menu has changed recently, it shrieked tremendously /its only limited amounts of items and dishes are super small comparing to Fair Lawn Diner. I realize I should not mention names to compare but I just wanted to make sure diner lovers understand how these two places have changed in last few months. Fair Lawn Diner, prior Empress BECAME THE ABSOLUTE FAVORITE PLACE FOR ME IN NJ. It is glowing under the new management. I highly recommend you try it- you will not be...

I have been going to the Fair Lawn Diner (formerly Empress) since I was a kid. I recently purchased food for pick up for myself and my family. I do not eat meat and ordered a side of home fries. I took about 3 bites before biting into a large piece of bacon which was stuck to the bottom. As I looked through the rest, there was bacon all throughout it. I called immediately and the woman who answered said she did not know how to issue a refund. This is the third time they messed up my food since taking new ownership, so I was done and just wanted a refund. She assured me the owner would call me back. Well we are about 2 weeks out and I am still waiting on that phone call. They have gone severely downhill since John sold the business. We miss the Empress and are in search of a new diner. Everything we have ordered since has had issues, were barely cooked (vegetarian empanadas were raw inside). Just not what it once was which is so sad because I love one of the waiters and bus boys so much, but we just can't go anymore. It's not worth...

The former Empress Diner has always been our ‘to go’ place since we are locals. When they changed ownership but kept the staff we were happy until TODAY! When we went to have breakfast with another family and my 14 year old daughter pulled a screw bolt from her mouth!!! Because it was within her home fries we were Concern that someone else might get hurt we told the server. (Whom we loved, he’s always been great) Well the new owner did not come to show his face! Told him to tell us it was impossible and that could not happen! Well it obviously did! 🙄

Ugh! I wish he just came to the table to apologize for the unfortunate accident. We were looking for NOTHING free! Told the server to check the cámaras and to tell the kitchen staff to be more careful.

For this reason I’d NOT recommend this place…to the owner, show up and face the customers when something goes wrong. I could have easily made a scene in front of a diner full of people and decided not to, for that you...

This is the first time I've come to the Fair Lawn Diner after the change in ownership (as it was the Empress Diner prior). Everything seems to have improved. The renovations make the space look nicer, the service is friendly and prompt, and even the food seems of better quality. However, the prices have also expectedly leveled-up: I ordered three pancakes with strawberries ($13) and my daughter ordered three pancakes stuffed with cherries ($14). Also, tea ($3) and hot chocolate ($4). Pancakes come with "breakfast syrup" packets :-/ Everything was delicious, neatly plated and came out quickly. I get that everything, especially eating out, is more expensive these days but I think the prices are a bit much. A simple pancake breakfast with my daughter (including tip) cost nearly $40. Although the food was good, I took a star off for price, resulting in 3 stars. If you can afford it, the Fair Lawn Diner could be for you.

Fair Lawn Diner is a delightful spot that perfectly captures the essence of classic American diners. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The extensive menu offers something for everyone, from hearty breakfasts served all day to mouthwatering sandwiches and dinner specials. What truly stands out is the quality of the food. The pancakes are fluffy and delicious, while the burgers are cooked to perfection. Don't miss the daily specials; they showcase fresh, seasonal ingredients that elevate the diner experience. The friendly staff adds to the charm, providing attentive service that makes you feel right at home. Whether you're stopping in for a quick bite or a leisurely meal, Fair Lawn Diner delivers a satisfying dining experience every time. It’s a must-visit for locals and visitors alike!
