April 14th: Bought elsewhere. Sale lost from the response to my record.
What the response from a store owner should have been: "Dear Sir, I have not had the pleasure of personally talking with you regarding your negative experiences with one of our employees. Rest assured, NO ONE is "not a customer." We would like to extend an invitation for you to stop by and see how we can retain you as a customer. Rest assured, we will take your opinion seriously."
Here is another example of a business owner's response: "I have edited my response as new info has come to light. The gentleman above is NOT even a customer. He claims to be homeless (though carries around a laptop) and is irritated we won't spend all day at our gaming tables so he can use our wi-fi. We have always been polite with him. But there is a public library on the very next block, and we have tried to explain that it would better suit his needs, and not tie up one of our players tables. The gentleman has never bought anything from us. There is little we can do to remedy a "review" such as this. PS -- no reviews have disappeared..there has never been another review about "John."
Which one sounds like a defensive business owner that views people as, "a nuisance that comes with the receipts?"
I now am a little forgiving of "John," as I now understand it may not be his personality, but the environment he is forced to work in. Perhaps the other reviews that are not flattering reflect the workplace attitude as well.
March 24 2016: Bought elsewhere. Sale lost from John.
Feb 24 2016: Steered a sale away from John's store.
John in the game store is rude to customers and treats his job like he is the head-cheerleader that judges who is in the "in-group" and who is in the "out-group." He jumps to conclusions without bothering to care regarding customer service issues, as well. I can't really say anything nice about his interactions over the years. He is really hurting business. I actively steer people to other stores until he is gone. Barnes & Noble, No Time Limit are places where The Bookery profits are heading because of John.
Two odd things, this is not the first time John has caused profit loss over the years, but the reviews from years ago that are not flattering seem to disappear.
Offering a negative review makes me feel bad as the rest of the institution runs just fine and has great merchandise. It's just one bad, ugly, ill-behaved apple that can over-ride the rest.
Update: Sales have gone to other stores and I have not received any positive response to date. I do not expect any as past information offered is more attack than informative.
August 2018: I shop at other stores when I need items. They have no problem getting good reviews such as "No Game Limit." I still do not recommend The Bookery as long as John works. I like shopping my hometown, but not at places that practice rude stupidity.
May 2019: Still haven't gone, they have lost hundreds to Target & "No Game Limit"
If only John had the brain to ask, "What's up? Why?" I would have cheerfully given him the reason. Stupid is as stupid does that costs the...
Read moreOne of the best Game stores I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. not only do they currently have an ongoing 20% off any gaming product but their game area is community built. everyone chips in to make it feel more like a home for gamers when they choose to play their tabletop games. The staff is amazing and extraordinarily polite. I have traveled the country and visited over a hundred game stores and have rarely written a review but this one needs to be noted as one of the best. they are definitely specialized in what games they deal in the most but it is by far in its own league of helpful and inviting game stores. I have just started playing warhammer 40k and have gotten more help and advice from here than almost any other store. even if not from the staff the customers are family friendly too, always wanting to help. afterall they do help build the place. if I even had a complaint it would be to have longer hours just so I can enjoy my time here longer! Thank you...

I went in one day to look around (I was in the area) and saw a Dungeons and Dragons miniature that I have been wanting for a while so I ask "how much?" The employee said he would give it to me for half off the retail price! I was through the roof! I told him that I definitely wanted it but I didn't have the money at that time and he said "no problem, I'll hold it for you", I was even happier. I gave him my name and number and told him I'd be in sometime this weekend to pick it up. I ended up being busy all weekend and couldn't get to the store until Tuesday. When i walked in asking for the D&D mini, he said that because i didn't show up over the weekend that he sold it, without contacting me in any way.
Don't deal with these guys in any way, they don't care about...
