been wanting to try for awhile and finally had a saturday off to go. we get in and there were about 3 parties ahead of us. stood in line for 15 minutes, not a single person was greeted by any of the staff and we all walked out. the groups behind us in line walked out a few minutes after us because they also were not being greeted (even after one of the staff sat behind the register, they did not acknowledge any of us. i think they were playing pokémon go lol)
Edit: We tried again and were actually able to order this time. Both of us got the wood fired french toast. You seat yourself, they just said not to sit at a large table - but every single small/medium sized table was full..... we sat at a four seater behind the green curtain and after receiving our drinks, the hostess told us those tables were for reservation only. (not sure why no one said so sooner.) so we had to pick up and move, looked super awkward carrying everything through the restaurant looking for a seat. the only other small table hasn't been cleaned and we ended up having to sit at a 10 top table. (the whole time we were there no one bussed anything, another group ended up sitting at a table with dirty dishes.) The herb eggs were good. The french toast was not what either of us expected, and not in a great way. It was basically charred bread pudding with a lot of egg. Which i guess if you're into that, go for it. We weren't, and since you pay before receiving anything it feels very taboo to ask for refunds if you don't like what you ordered. So neither of us really ate our $30 breakfast.
This place could seriously benefit from operating like a normal restaurant. Having someone greet you at the door, tell you wait times, seat you and a server take your order would easily solve almost every issue we've run in to here. It's too...

When you find "the sugar guild" today, and it's no easy task, you'll be certain you're in the wrong place. Instead of a kitschy coffee shop feel designed to pull in nostalgic millenials, you'll discover a windowless, cinderblock building in the middle of a residential neighborhood. There will be no sign that you've found the right place--litteraly there's no sign.
On entering you'll find a dive bar decked out in red Christmas lights with three or four TVs tuned to whatever comes on at 9am in dive bars. At the bar you'll find the place's only employee, a middle aged woman who is server, bar tender, and chef.
The entire experience feels like an up and coming breakfast food truck that got lost one night after a real rager of a party, crashed into the back of a drive bar, woke up hungover the next morning, mixed up a bloody Mary, looked around and said "Yeah, fine, this'll work," and stayed.
All that being said, the Southwest Omelet I had was very good. My breakfast companion felt her omlete was under-seasoned, but otherwise good. We both thought the breakfast potatoes were unique and enjoyable.
In its original location, this was probably a nice place to start the day, in its current incarnation though it's a dive bar filled with locals who are there to drink at 9am and may grab an omlete or potatoes on the side. While I thought the food was excellent it didn't make up for the atmosphere or the slow service due to the hard-working, but over taxed owner/operator.
If you're looking for a highly unique experience, this place will certainly deliver, but it's unlikely to become a regular haunt if you don't...
Read moreOne of the best breakfast/brunch we've had in dayton. Traditional breakfast options with nontraditional textures/taste. We ordered the French toast and sugar guild breakfast. French toast was really interesting, not too sweet, lots of egg flavor, and quite crispy on the surface. The sugar guild breakfast had two eggs, bacon, potatoes, and biscuit and gravy. The bacon was sweet and melted in my mouth, biscuit was crunchy with creamy sausage gravy that wasn't too salty, and potato with skin that was really crunchy and tasty like baked potato chips. Again, not a very traditional breakfast diner taste/texture. Overall, very tasty.
The interior was quite roomy with lots of seating available and art throughout. Varied sized cups and plating. My wife got a giant jar for iced water and I got a teeny little jar for iced water so I ended up drinking her water when I was done with mine in two sips
The only reason we're not given it 5 stars is because it took 45 minutes from ordering the food to arrival of food. Granted, it was a busy Saturday brunch and it took 20 minutes in line to order so we sort of assumed it would be a long wait for food. A heads up from the staff would have been nice though. Also, maybe just because you have the seating capacity doesn't mean you should seat everybody that comes through if it means an absurdly long wait to get food out? Detracts from the experience in my opinion. Maybe if there were some nice drinks and cocktails to help pass the time that would be more enjoyable but alas only tea, coffee, and water for beverages.
Would definitely go back but I would go back just slightly hungry due to...
