First I want to start off by saying I understand that Plato's is targeting teenagers and young adults. I also understand that they are looking for used clothing that is great condition. However, I feel like they are making very poor decisions with what they are buying from people. I brought in a 2 trash bags of clothes, including a pair of Ugh boots that I bought last year, a knee length olive green winter jacket with fur on the hood and wool lining from Hollister, a white leather North West purse, a Coach wallet, a pair of Steve Madden heels, and many more items that are geared towards teenagers and young women. They only took 5 items, not incldiinc much of the stuff that I would have bought if I was in their place. They didn't even take the Ugh boots which they said "showed a little bit more signs of wear than they are looking for," but when I was waiting I was walking around their store looking at stuff and they literally had a pair of dirty walmWal boots that should have been thrown away. The lady said they were slso overstocked right now and we're extremely selective. What I do not understand is if they are being "extremely selective," why are they buying so much trash. A store like this should be considering quality over quantity. When a coustmer walks into a store, especially a thrift store, they do not want to spend hours looking at ranks of crappy clothing just to find one good item, if they wanted that they would go to Goodwill. And it's not like they are buying cheap stuff and selling it at a reasonable price either, it's like they want to buy a bunch of really bad stuff for a few dollars and then sell it for like $10 each. Overall I feel like the store is not true to the values they claim to be following. I understand that there are rules they need to follow, etc, but I think they are diluting the quality of...
Read moreThis place is a hit or a miss, it seems this store is getting better with not taking in fast fashion as much. Since it is close to the main campus Penn State there are international clothes. Ive gotten branded shoes and clothing that can only be bought online and I KNOW THE PRICE OF THESE and wow, the fact someone donated it is crazy. BUT some things are questionable for prices and quality, like, you could go to the goodwill find the same thing for WAY less. My husband finds amazing things every single time, nothing like other plato stores, so I would say the mens section is good. Staff is always friendly, went its busy its hard to get a fitting room because the staff is so busy. Oh god, now I remember a couple hard core making out in one and BOY the staff was PISSED, those customers were jerks to everyone but the staff stayed professional. I know nothing of the trade ins at this location, but when I went there last everyone seemed understanding with "we probably are over saturated, wrong season, not the style we want our store to be selling" explanations. I've been to many different platos and some employees literally say "all this is ugly and for poor people"
They are cutting back on bags, being your own if you think you're going to find a lot normally walking...
Read moreI guess I am just used to the content and quality of the store here in Allentown. This store looks closer to a Salvation Army on the inside. Not knocking SalvationArmy, I find some good stuff there!! I did find some great deals for my son, so that made us quite pleased. I was a tiny bit disappointed as I had clothing to sell which was all from last year - which they did not choose to purchase because they were out of season (I worked retail for many years, and certain styles in certain brands WILL sell regardless). Nike, Hollister, Abercrombie, etc in good condition. Which would normally be ok, however the quality and styles and condition of some of the clothing currently on the racks for sale leaves me scratching my head a bit as to why they would turn down my items. The gentleman who worked the counter...
