At first glance this relocated facility seemed to be a nice place for kids, especially on a rainy day. I know this space isn't CM-Pitt or Please Touch Phila, respectively, but I have two main complaints about this establishment. First, the $7 admission fee. THIS IS FOR ADULTS ALSO. The DSCP is labeled as a Children's museum & learning center. Adults pay a full price, no exception, no discount rate. I find this illogical, especially for what's available (no designated sitting/watching areas, no cafeteria). Full price to stand and watch your child (mine a 2yo) play in a 4k sq ft single floor space seemed excessive.
Second, my 2yo came here. Out of the 30 or so interactive exhibits she could truly play with about half dozen of them. This is not counting Duplo/Legos corner. Employees are walking around to help but no one ever approached us to do so.
For children older than 4-5yo this is a nice space. For children younger than that you are better off letting them play at Chic-fil-a play land 1 mile up Atherton. These age gap disproportionates need to be considered if not corrected.
I liked this place but we will not be coming back for a few years. I will be sure to tell all necessary and inquiring parties of this...
Read moreWe have gone multiple times since the marine biology exhibit was added and the room is always closed. Today we were on our way in, and a staff person saw us. He said nothing and then shut and locked the door. There was a birthday party today and hardly any of the parents were watching their kids. The staff said nothing. Many of the kids were quite young. They were running around screaming. I also noticed an unsupervised child in a wheelchair having difficulty utilizing some of the activities. There were no staff people paying attention to help modify the activities so she could do them. I adjusted the green screen for her myself. It was heartbreaking watching her try to stretch her hands to be able to see some part of her on the screen. Most of the exhibits with tables have high bar stools, and there was no way she could get up to use them. I feel this place is not inclusive to children with disabilities which is incredibly sad in 2023. I hope they look at that and make some...
Read moreMy 16 month old son loved it. He loved running around to the different activity stations and seeing what they do. Kids under a certain age are free, so it was 14$ for myself, my wife and my son. The stations are set up somewhat sporadically around the room, and you can move freely between them. There is no time limit at any station, so you can spend as much or as little time as you want. My biggest issues is that some of the stations are worse for ware, and some were shut down for repairs or maintenance. The stations are loosely organized by themes such as sound/music, physics, magnets, etc. The staff are friendly, and it seems that they clean the toys and stations regularly. I believe they also host different events for kids throughout the week, but I don't know what...
