Fletcher Park, which has been renamed the Bill Moore Community Park, is a neighborhood recreational area located on the Howard Gap Road, just a short way from Hendersonville Road in the town of Fletcher. The park consists of several ball fields, a dog park, and multi-use walkways and bicycle paths which many locals enjoy. The park and surrounding trails are flat and have no appreciable elevation. The expanse of the park allows for a gentle stroll for seniors such as myself. You can stroll along the circumference of an oval-shaped walkway from Howard Gap Road, along a walking path that is mostly asphalt paved. There is also a nice easy wooded trail that borders Cane Creek, adjacent to the open park. If you walk the entire length of Cane Creek, then you will have to double back at its terminus a short distance past Mills Gap Road. There is also a side loop that runs along Mills Gap Road and swings back along Cane Creek. This walking path will enable you to increase your total walking distance.
I had my initial visit to Fletcher Park with a group called (New Asheville Friends). We are senior citizens, who participate in golf, hiking, bowling, golf, bridge, etc. If you are interested in weekly hikes, like me, that are either rigorous or mild, then please feel free to check us out. The nice thing about our weekly walks is that we visit a variety of trails, greenways, and neighborhoods around the local area, many of which I was previously...

Take It From A Local....... My Favorite Things To Do In Asheville:
Obviously.....Sweeten Creek Coffee is #1 on My List. Best Coffee Shop in Western NC
Ok...so Biltmore Estate is a Must See, will take all Day, and you will be tired! Amazing Wealth displayed by the Vanderbilt Family.
My #3 is The North Carolina Arboretum, also a must see, which is conveniently located beside The Blue Ridge Parkway, so make reservations at Blue Ridge Inn for a meal, and then turn off the Blue Ridge Parkway toward Brevard and see all the natural waterfalls in the National Forest. If you feel bold, try sliding rock.
Fletcher Park..This is My Go To: great for kids, great for walking dogs, great for outside activities. Fletcher Park has long, level shady walking trail beside Cane Creek so it's cool easy walking, ball field, open field, frisbee golf, picnic tables, meditation benches, and THIS IS IMPORTANT..friendly locals who regularly use this park.
Main Street Hendersonville. Understated town of wealth and culture. Genuine, decent, nice local people.
If you want a Day Trip....see town of Blowing Rock, NC. I posted about this earlier in June.
Like to fish? Brevard/Mills River areas have great streams.....remember, you need a license to fish.
If you like Breweries, then welcome to Beer City USA.
There You Have It from a Local's view. Welcome to the...
Read moreI'll say this first.."Make this park bigger before it's too late!" This area is growing very fast and the amount of public recreational space needs to be kept in proportion to population growth or else the parks we already have will be loved to death by a populace desperate for outdoor spaces to play in. Bill Moore park, (aka Fletcher park) is one of our favorite places to walk. It has a great walking path that follows the creek a pretty good distance. It has nearly everything a great public park should have, except for basketball courts, which would be a great addition. There's a really nice bridge over cane creek as well as several places to access the water if you like to fish. There are also some picnic tables around and a nice little pond that often has ducks in it. If it was just a little bigger it would be perfect. Maybe that will happen soon. I think the people who pay taxes and contribute to the local economy deserve...
