Ate at the Blue Sky Cafe today. Here are my thoughts.
For the too long to read all that crowd, it was good, not spectacular, but was not let down, and they lived up to their reviews.
For the rest of you... I went super simple, a burger. The burgers are cooked MW by default. I feel like if a place decides this is necessary, there's probably a reason, maybe meat quality for example, but that's speculation and nothing more. The burger was fine. For those whose main selling point is a low price, this is your place. The burger with fries was $11. They do offer other sides, but I am a fry snob, so I had to try them. THE FRIES WERE GREAT. They really were. They were the kind that apparently have some sort of light batter applied to them? Nothing fancy, and I've never prepared fries this way, but I always appreciate them when I get them. These were hot and fresh. The only slight critique is that they did not appear to be seasoned, nothing a bit of salt, pepper and hot sauce couldn't address.
My friend had a Greek salad, served with a side of hummus and naan. He enjoyed it, but felt like this was not the right choice for the venue. He is a pescatarian who leans vegetarian, so when we dine, he goes as healthy as possible most of the time. He liked everything, no complaints.
You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. You grab your fountain drink at this time, as well as your cutlery and whatever else you might need. No frills. I expected something a bit different, but I get it. They're saving money with the no wait staff approach, and this restaurant attracts all kinds. We are two ultra lefties, and in this day and age almost everything can be judged on a political spectrum. This place is solidly in the middle based on their clientele, which they sort of have to be, given their location on the right leaning side of town.
End of the day? Give it a shot if you happen to find yourself passing through Fletcher at lunch time. They also do dinner and are open until 8 most days. Check the internet...
Read moreIâm leaving 5 stars because I know to the average persons dietary needs, this place is so wonderful and I donât want to lower their score simply because Iâm on a crazy frustrating GF and dairy free diet. Iâm just hoping someone on yâallâs team might hear me out from the other side? Friends, family and I have been patrons of this restaurant for years and it has always been one of my absolute favorites. I love how diverse and delicious your menu is especially for this part of town.
After feeling really crummy for a long time I was recently informed I shouldnât have gluten products or dairy. It has been a difficult adjustment but I am learning and feeling so much better. I have been pretty much living on fruit and veggies at home and after a tough day I thought it might be nice to treat myself to the hip and cool restaurant near me. Itâs close so I didnât mind dropping in and looking at a menu. I found many options in the wraps and things I could sub out (already felt bad for that) they used to be my favorite and everyoneâs always been so nice, so if I could have a GF wrap I could make it work! The counter gentlemen was kind but told me they donât carry them and thatâs all. I looked at the salads on the menu but thatâs practically what Iâve already been eating so I just left disheartened. I checked later and it seems they have GF bread. I wish I was informed. People walking in behind me made me feel overwhelmed which is my fault - but if the menu was labeled in some fashion I think that could have helped? I also clearly didnât look hard enough though since I didnât see the bread, so maybe I just panicked and didnât notice. I know the world doesnât revolve around everyone. If I could, I would bring my own stupid accommodations with me without looking like a lunatic. I just wish I could have some help. I miss...
Read moreMy partner & I called to place an order for take-out today (02/02/2021). We have a dairy allergy. She and I have both worked in food service before and so we know how busy it gets and how difficult it can sometimes be to answer difficult questions about menu items or ingredients. We tried to look the allergy information up online but it was not listed on the menu. The person who answered the phone was impatient, rude, and just not interested in answering questions about what items on the menu did or did not have dairy. We asked about the tzatziki sauce and the oriental sesame dressing and the increasingly impatient person on the line told us that they both had dairy. When we asked if there were any dairy free sauce substitutions she immediately said no without even taking time to check. When asked if there were any mayo-based sauces she said yes but that mayonaise has eggs in it. When we told her that eggs aren't dairy she demanded "well what can I get for you?" My partner has worked in Fletcher for years and prior to developing a dairy allergy would order from the Blue Sky frequently. Today was the first time since she had developed an allergy that she tried to order, and it would have been my first time ordering from there -- and we were both very disappointed in the way our concerns about allergies were brushed off as too much trouble. I've been told that the food is very good and that normally it's an excellent place to eat -- if allergy information were listed on the menu or if the service we received were better we would not be leaving a 1 star review -- but until then we will take our...
