Downey Dog Park — Attraction in Florida

I just moved to the area to be closer to downtown for my job, and I'm grateful that this dog park is very close by. This park has a lot of space and has good sized separate sections for smaller dogs. When I first started visiting a few months ago, the poop bag stations were consistently not filled, but it seems that those are now being better maintained. There is a working water fountain, lots of benches and ample shade, which is truly appreciated for those sweltering summer days. However, given the sand aspect, this park would really benefit from a dog wash station on premises. I also wish their hours of operation were from dawn to dusk, instead of a 6 pm closure. It's far too hard for those that work to come over during the week with enough time to play. This park has a lot of potential to be excellent, but it would need a few improvements. However, I am still giving 4 stars because I feel my dogs are safely enclosed in this park and they don't care about the sand. After all, it's about...

I wanted this to be an excellent dog park since it’s the closest to my house but it’s just not. This park runs parallel to colonial which does not make it a pleasant park to sit at. There is a lot of traffic noise. The park is very long but it’s not very wide, but there is adequate seating for people to hang out. During my visit there was a very aggressive husky there and a negligent owner who would not get his dog under control which made this particular visit annoying. Also my dog picked up kennel cough from this park even though he has been vaccinated for it. It’s not worth the trip for me. However the rest of the park is rather enjoyable So if you’d like to just walk your dog on a leash through a pleasant park this would be a great...

It's a nice spot to bring your dog to socialize with other dogs. I'd give it 5 stars, but some people don't pay attention to the sign on the gate that says small dogs only. Someone had a bigger dog in there the other day and someone else came with a small dog let it out to play and the bigger dog attacked it. Don't know how bad it got hurt, but it's owner had to take it to the vets. Anyhow, there are three sections to it, one for small dogs, an area for the bigger dogs and another area (I guess for dogs that don't get along with others that well.
