My first time at chubbys I was with one other person and we were seated and served some delicious home style cooking within a completely reasonable amount of time. Excited to bring ALL of our friends back to this new delicious establishment we had discovered, the next weekend we arrived with about 6 more people in tow. I understand that Sunday morning a party of 8 is going to be hard to seat (something we admittedly had not considered beforehand) but could a single waitress not have at least glanced in our direction during the 20+ minutes we were waiting there to be seated and said there’s no seating available???? Keep in mind the sign at the front clearly said wait to be seated so I, (a back of house and front of house restaurant employee of many years and various establishments) patiently waited at the front to be either seated or let known we would have to wait. I also want to point out this large group of people was blocking the small entrance they had to the restaurant and there was more people waiting outside also being ignored!!! At this time there was 2-3 empty tables we could have easily dispersed across but not a word from the servers. All of my friends including myself waited until it was so uncomfortable standing there in a narrow space being ignored that we literally had to leave. Upon seeing us leave not a word was said either. If you’re moving your kids into UCF or just visiting and want a nice (relatively) cheap breakfast, I would MUCH more recommend Kekes breakfast in the mculloch Publix plaza. Barely more expensive, very short wait for a large party, and actually very good service. Also 10 minutes closer to UCF campus...
Read moreI searched for a diner near UCF and came across Chubbys. My husband and I walked in and I loved the decoration especially the Bettyboop wall. There were families dining in which was a plus but the sad part was that we felt totally ignored by the staff. We stood by the entrance for minutes with the waitresses passing by and they paid no mind to us. I tried to catch one of the waitresses attention and she just passed by me. Finally I walked to the counter and asked another waitress if we should wait to be seated or would we have to wait. She said we could seat wherever we wanted which we then did. Sat for a bit and nobody was taking care of us. Then the same waitress that answered me gave us our menus and took our drink order. It took a longer time for them to take our order. They made us feel a bit uncomfortable since they were giving better service to everyone else. This was the first time we visited this place. I thought perhaps they had mistaken us with some other people that gave them a hard time before ( this is just me thinking of a reason why we were kind of being ignored). I thought of leaving a few times but convinced myself to stay till the end to find out the outcome. I have to say the food was really good. The food tasted fresh and homemade style. The reason why we ended up not leaving was Angela whom was the only one of the staff to even look at us. Even though the food was good I dont see myself visiting this...
Read moreChubbys is a decent place to eat breakfast in the east Orlando area. I stopped in because I wanted to try something new and I didn’t want to go to Waterford or downtown or to Winter Park. The first thing I noticed is how friendly and welcoming the staff is. I really liked how they made me feel as if I was at a perfectly polite Southern Baptist grandmother’s home on a Sunday morning. The waitresses were incredibly nice and made the restaurant very cozy. The food itself was pretty good. There weren’t many options for breakfast and most of it was pretty standard stuff. I was hoping to find that signature item Chubbys is known for, but I couldn’t locate it. Eggs, pancakes, French toast, waffles, etc seemed to be the norm, which is fine, but I’d like Chubbys to stand out and offer at least 1 thing other breakfast spots do not; something to set them apart from every other ubiquitous diner in Orlando.
But besides that, no major complaints. Food was good, prices were reasonable, and the staff was amazing. One suggestion: Perhaps the owners should think about investing in a sign that can be seen from the street? It took me a little bit to find the restaurant. Google was telling me it is right next to the Dunkin’ and I must’ve driven around for 5 minutes trying to find it. Anyway, small gripes aside, I would be interested in coming back to Chubbys. It perhaps wouldn’t be my first choice, but it definitely is...
