A regional treasure, indeed. Beautifully stated by a previous reviewer. For a 2nd year in a row, my friend and I made a trip out to celebrate her birthday on the waters!
I was blown away and highly impressed with every staff member that helped us with our rentals today. After a smooth check-in process, we got our life vests on then made our way down to the dock. We were warmly greeted by two staff members wearing Dock Master t-shirts. I wish I got their names because they were stellar! They asked if we had kayaked before and I said yes although I made some rookie mistakes last time and nearly tipped over while getting into kayak. I was a bit nervous about today's outing.
Happy to report things went differently this time around. I had an excellent and seamless experience. Little did the Dock Master know what happened last time, and was just perhaps naturally skilled and awesome at his job! He offered great tips on staying low, support, and encouragement. I made it steadily in the kayak which was a huge relief. Also, was given a paddle with a shorter length (Carlisle Magic Mystic) that fit my petite frame perfectly. I have only ever used the yellow & blue paddles, so I was surprised by how much this length adjustment made a big difference. We even got to explore further down Lake Natoma since I didn't have to exert as much energy!
My friend had an equally stellar experience with her staff member! The Dock Master was super kind, clear and insightful and offered two ways to get into the kayak. She chose to try the ladder option and said it was easiest experience she has had! Big thank you to the Dock Masters from 6/15's opening shift for your superb customer service. Their level of attention to details, kind encouragement, helpful tips, and all-around support was truly appreciated!
After 2.5 hrs of pure relaxation, we returned to the dock. The staff member offered a tip on getting off which made for an easy transition onto dock. Thank you to all the amazing Aquatic Center staff! You made my experience and friend's birthday memorable and incredible! Can't wait for our next outing perhaps it will on...
Read moreAVOID THIS RENTAL PLACE
Visiting from Europe with my girlfriend, I was hoping for a relaxing afternoon gliding across the water on a paddle or a kayak. What I got instead was an infuriating lesson in American red tape and corporate nonsense.
First, you can’t just pay like any normal rental place. You have to create an online account with your email, phone number, and probably your firstborn child before. Why? So they can spam you forever? So they can track your every movement? Who knows, but it’s a ridiculous hurdle just to rent a glorified bathtub with paddles.
Then, as if that wasn’t enough, they require you to hand them your ID (physical one only) and your car keys!!! There’s no way I’m leaving my only form of ID or my means of escape in the hands of some underpaid teenager at a rickety dock. What kind of scam is this?
And let’s talk about the price. They charge 20$ an hour. If you’re planning on a day of renting you could buy your own damn paddle board!
Do yourself a favor and just get an inflatable one and go to the state park next to that place...
Read moreThe worst place I've ever been at. We had like extra 2 hours of free time, decided to get a kayak for about 30-40 minutes, went and ask questions, seemed like nobody cared at all to answer them. After walking circles for 20 minutes they told us to scan bar code and create account. We did it like in 2 minutes. (there was nobody by that table)Then only one window was open and few people from those who work there were just standing. Then that only window was closed and they sent us to another one where was already line with over 5 people in front of us. There was few unlawful things we have noticed. Figured out that it's just waste of time (though our wavers were already signed) we put our forms in trash an left because standing in line for another 30 minutes, then renting kayak for 10 minutes and standing in line to return it and to get late to next scheduled place was a bit too much.
Few years ago with bigger line it was taking much faster. And I remembered it as a...
