Vintage Flying Museum is a "working museum" in accordance with the wishes of Bill and Chuckie Hospers, the founders. I have been involved with the Museum from the beginning, many many years ago. This man Washburn needs some sort of grudge to bear in the world. He has even taken on the New York City Fire Department in a similar way as he rants about VFM.
The volunteers and directors are all honest and straightforward people with no other interest than that of preserving and FLYING vintage aircraft.
What airplanes are in the hanger at any given time is variable, because they FLY. At the moment, the only flying B-29 and one of 2 flying B-24's are there. Next week, they may not be.
Do visit the museum. You will find the volunteers friendly and most willing to spend time with visitors. See the exhibits, see the airplanes from the inside, visit the gift shop.
If possible attend the annual Hanger Dance. It is always wonderful, with a 40's style big band, and dancing in front of WW-II aircraft. Wear period clothing if you have it. Even if you don't dance come anyway and watch the incredible Swing Dancers from the area put on magnificent exhibitions.
Welcome to Vintage Flying Museum.

Read moreYou have to like history and appreciate aviation to appreciate this place, the time and effort they must have put together to bring to us such an amazing place. Learned so many new things from WW1 and WW2. It was fascinating hearing stories from the veterans there in staff. I could just sit there in there brake room and listen to them talk for ever. The place was really organized and well detailed. All the way down from the small scale models collection to the real stuff. Tons of memorabilia news papers, artifacts, facts etc you name it this place had it and if you don't see something or understand ask. They where extremely eager to answer any question and laid some good knowledge on me. Thanks again. I have not been able to talk to many friends and family from all the facts I leathat day. Still mind blowing. Nice gift shop also if you want to take a Lil of the place with you to remember by. You can't beat this place for only 10 bucks. Definitely a place to stop by if your passing by or even if you live in the area. Thank you again for a wonderful experience. Thank to everyone that took the time to put together such a...
Read moreWe - my grandkids and I - visited a couple of years ago. As we approached, it looked a lot smaller than the Cavanaugh Air Museum in Addison but it actually turned out to be bigger than we expected. On weekdays it doesn't seem to get much traffic so we had excellent access. The kids got to sit in the pilot seats of an A-3 Skywarrior which was very unexpected, so this turned out to be a much more intimate experience.
In the workshop, a mechanic interrupted his work to show us around including climbing up a mobile ramp to inspect the cockpit of a B-26 that was being restored and standing in the bomb-bay of another B-26 as the gentleman explained the various components. Disarmed bombs were on touchable display and the kids got a huge kick out of that.
Despite our initial concerns as we approached, the Vintage Flying Museum turned out to a very substantial warehouse of historic aircraft and also home to a bunch of very enthusiastic, instructive,...
