I went here because the wife and I like trying new restaurants and all of the reviews, or most were really good.
I'll start with the entry; the parking lot was not filled at all with only about two cars and the tinted widows made the place look dark to the point we questioned if it was even open.
The inside looked pretty clean and we were quickly greeted by a friendly waitress that told us to seat ourselves. There was one large family/gathering and two other small families dining there, but the place was pretty much empty.
We ordered the dinner buffet that I read so many good things about, or maybe those were only for the breakfast buffet. This was by far the smallest buffet I have ever gone to. We had our choice of two proteins being roast and meatloaf. There was over cooked rice, potatoes that my wife said were boxed, cheese potatoes, dried out mac and cheese, one jalapeno that was wrapped in bacon, gravy, and a pan with about four french fries in it and over cooked (some being burnt) corn bread. The salad bar was lettuce, cheese, beets, pea salad, another kind of salad like macaroni salad possibly, your choice of four dressings I believe, and some picante sauce. I really couldn't believe how poor the selection was. Behind that was a small dessert bar.
Once I sat back down the waitress told us that we could get chicken fried steak, fried fish, chicken, and fajita's off the grill at no extra charge. So I asked for the chicken fried steak that was actually pretty good, and my wife asked for the chicken. My wife said the meat loaf was terrible and my daughter agreed. The chicken came out (two chicken legs)a little over cooked and didn't really get touched. The fajitas came out which included chicken/steak, green peppers, and onions. We were told that if we wanted rice, cheese and picante sauce we could get that from the buffet. The fajita mix was pretty good but the tortillas were absolutely terrible. The wife and kids got desserts and they all liked their desserts.
Beyond that, the waitress was friendly and attentive. However, the buffet for four people cost me 48.00. Not at all worth 48.00! So I will finish by saying I gave two stars for the good service and clean appearance as well as what little food we got that did taste good. Outside of that it would deserve less than one star.
My opinion is leave this place to all these people that seem to love it and spend your money at a restaurant that will offer better food...
Read moreThe place is called Heaven's Gate! HEAVEN, people!! Need I say more?? Ok, if you insist. I have been for the breakfast buffet and brunch buffet both. Brunch was just "OK", and I wouldn't go back for it. Of course, I say that because this was only after having been a handful of times for the breakfast buffet. I cannot accurately describe the beauty of their breakfast spread. How many different ways can you serve scrambled eggs? Heavens Gate says at least half a dozen! Any combination I could've ever thought of. Chorizo eggs are the way to go. But the star of the show here is the french toast, hands down. This place has the best french toast that you will ever have in your entire life.... ever!!!! Better than your mom's, better than your granny's! And as if your 12 fully loaded plates of breakfast food weren't enough...... just ask, and they will be happy to bring you a spread of whatever deserts they will be putting out for the brunch buffet! Why? Because they are SO HAPPY to serve their customers and make sure they are fat and happy when they leave. On that note, if you didn't have diabetes and high cholesterol before you came, you might when you leave. So, just let that be a warning that if you have health issues and are/should be on a strict diet, this may not be the place for you. I do not have health concerns, but am on a strict diet. If it weren't for that, I would find a way to indulge at Heaven's Gate for the breakfast buffet any chance I got. I do live in Arlington, so it's about a 30 minute drive. That helps me avoid the inevitable diet doom. I should also note that it's extremely reasonably priced, for what you are getting. It is around $20, including tip (which is a generous one), for my son and I to eat there on a Saturday morning. PLEASE VISIT THEM, THEY ARE DOING...
Read moreThe place is nice, I saw high ratings and assumed the food would taste better. The meats at the buffet were good, the stew was good, roast and veggies were good, but the sides like corn, green beans, and spinach tasted like they were heated up out of the frozen section with absolutely no flavor… the salad bar was small… with only one leaf… lettuce… should have more options to be considered a salad bar, the dressings were not labeled, asked for croutons and they were the stalest croutons I ever ate… the staff is really nice though, also the ladies restroom had two stalls, and when you shut the door it was hitting your knees… that cramped… I’ve never felt so crammed in a restroom but it was clean with beautiful sinks… I would advise stopping somewhere else to use the restroom before you go.. only use their restroom to wash hands… but even that area is too small… I won’t return, I’m a southern girl so my idea of home cooked is tasty… not bland, but Maybee they limit seasoning for a healthier menu… idk… again the staff was very friendly and helpful and some items were pretty good, nothing so good that I would return, I didn’t even try desert due to the let down of the food… also the seating is very uncomfortable, the chairs are hard wood with no cushion and no booths… that was the first thing I noticed that made me think “not very thoughtful regarding customer...
