The Glen Canyon Dam Overlook in Page, Arizona, is a must-visit for families and travelers seeking a quick, scenic stop with striking views. Access is straightforward with a well-maintained parking lot just off the road. The trail to the overlook is short but not paved, featuring uneven terrain with some rocks and steps. A sturdy railing provides support, making it manageable for most visitors, but impossible for strollers or those with mobility issues.
Kids will love the fun climbing opportunities on the rocky outcrops near the overlook. The smooth, manageable rocks create a safe yet exciting playground for children to explore while staying within sight. My kids had a blast scrambling around, turning the visit into a mini-adventure.
The views are great! The massive Glen Canyon Dam looms impressively below, its concrete bulk contrasting with Lake Powellās deep blue. Turn the other direction, and the Colorado River snakes through vibrant red canyons, offering stunning photo ops. The dual perspectives make it a unique vantage point.
Thereās no entrance fee, and the overlook is rarely overcrowded, even in peak seasons, keeping the experience relaxed. Bring hats and water, as shade is scarce, especially in summer. Overall, the short hike over uneven terrain is worth it for the kid-friendly climbing and jaw-dropping views of the dam and river. A great 30-60...
Ā Ā Ā Read morelooking at Google Maps I was worried that this place would be a fee area. I was pleased to find a normal-looking overlook with parking and a trail leading down to a nicer view. I was even more pleased to see that the trail leading down was very natural and had a safety handrail.
After parking and walking down, you had to a little shady area and you can see a perfect view of Glen Canyon Dam.
I was taken aback by the beauty of the canyon and the river. That dam is quite a sight as well. I took a lot of videos at this location because thatās what I do and they did pretty well people love seeing the natural beauty out here. I was taken aback myself by the beauty of the canyon and the river.

Please be aware that to get to the lower lookout area you need to be alert and quick on your feet. Lots of slick, sandy rocks in the area and it is definitely not wheelchair accessible.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreEnter this overlook area from the Scenic Drive right across from several hotels. Parking is free at the end of the cul-de-sac and then one walks down on slick rock, aided by some rock steps and embedded hand railings. Use those, as 'slick' rock is appropriately named. If you have balance issues or if walking unaided is difficult, don't attempt the path. Wear good walking shoes. It is possible to walk down much further than we did but however far one goes down, they must also come back up. We stopped where we could see the river after it had passed through the dam. The rocks will reflect heat, so it will feel warmer than it actually is. This hike is best done on cooler days or in the morning. There are no facilities at this viewpoint, so take care of that first and bring a water bottle. The light is bright also. There is a shaded picnic ramada near the bottom, if you wish to haul in (and out) some picnic...
