I met David Uhl in Morgantown WV at Moutainfest one year. The year before I bought a book of some of his paintings and fell in love with the Rosenkran Era. Anyways, It was on my bucket list to own one. I started saving toward my goal. Next year I went early and was engrossed in looking at the artwork. A guy showed up and was chatting with me.. He didn't seem to like any of his work. I kept taking him from one painting to another trying to get him to see the beauty in one of the pieces. I thought this gentleman has no taste. I was completely at a loss for words when he introduced his self as David Uhl. Here I am trying to to sell him on his own artwork. I sat and chatted with him for awhile. He made it possible for me not only to fulfill my bucket list of owning one of his paintings but two of them. I am so honored to have them in my home. I also own one on his shirts that I framed as well. He is a very talented artist and a very kind man. If you ever get a chance visit his studio. Thank you David for sharing your talent with others and making dreams come true. Every day I stop and step back into those paintings and get lost for a few minutes. It brings me still great joy and alot of peace. Blessings always to you, Lori...
Read moreI have been collecting Uhl artwork for 6-7 years now. I love every piece. They all have a reason I have purchased them, such as the year that Badlands was released, I coincidentally had a great ride out to the Badlands for a camping trip earlier that spring. Additionally, David always makes time to share the stories of the paintings he does. Just this past August, some friends and I wandered into the gallery in Deadwood; I always like to say hi to he and Greg at Sturgis time. David spent 30-45 minutes visiting with us without hesitation. Pretty much gave us his full attention to anything we asked him about. Sharing the stories behind the pieces, the friendships he's made with his subjects and the painting techniques he uses, and how they differ from piece to piece. He has always been very approachable and makes owning his art a more personal experience. David's art is the first artwork that I started collecting, and when I was a new art buyer, Greg made the experience very easy. I always look forward to the new works and the time I spend visiting with...
Read moreMy first purchase was Ruby 1998 in Daytona. At this point in time I had no clue what this was going to turn into! I sat with David at a dinner, History meets the arts in Gettysburg. We were looking at summer of 1927. He ask how do you look at that picture? I explained I looked at the center, darkest meets the lightess, move to the left then circle around to the right. He said that’s exactly what I wanted the viewer to do! There is a path in every piece! Over the years I’ve seen David and Greg at so many events From a drink in Milwaukee, conversation in Deadwood, pics in Washington and meeting models from his work Gloria, Christine, and many others. Sharing his family and friends with all of us, how gracious! Each piece I have marks a certain time, place, or people. Years of great events and memories! When I look at his work it transports me to that place & era. To me, his art work is truly a gift as well as the friendships! Cheers to...
