My Volvo XC90 broke down on me as I was in the middle of moving to the area. After being recommended I got it towed to Ken's. NEVER AGAIN!!! I was told my power steering pump, serpentine belt, tensioner and idler pulley needing replacing. OK no big deal not a big job and kind of simple. NOT for them apparently! After 4 days I had to call them and they told me they ordered the parts. A week later I called again and they then told me they couldn't get the parts smh. I asked if I ordered the parts would they replace them and they said yes. Soooo 3 days later I dropped off the parts they were unable to get. I figured simple job should only take a few days. NOT!!! A week later I called to check on the progress. I was told they ordered the parts and didn't use the ones I ordered and dropped off to them. Ya know the ones they told me I could purchase (probably to be able to up charge me). I now had to return those parts. They said the parts should be in by the next day which was a Tuesday. I call Wednesday for an update again and they told me it should be done the next day. Wellllllll, I was told it would be done the next day for about 7days. Mind you from the time I had it towed until I got it back was an entire month. A MONTH! for a power steering pump, water pump, tensioner and idler pulley. It sucked just moving and being without a car for an entire month basically stuck in the middle of nowhere unable to get the last bit of stuff at our old house and unable to get things you usually need after you just move. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! Especially foreign vehicles and/or if you want to deal with someone that actually communicates with you. Out of the entire month they only called me one time. I had to call them every other time. I would call once it would get to the last hour before closing time, on the days that my car should have been all finished, because remember they kept telling me that it would be done tomorrow. On a good note they did come pick me up so I could get my vehicle back from them when it was finally finished. That was nice of them and very much...
Read moreAfter having a problem here in the past, we decided to give Ken's another try. The guy at the counter was given specific instructions on how we wanted our wheels removed, balanced, and installed to avoid potential damage like we had experienced before. While watching one of the technicians from a distance, it became obvious that he was struggling to find a suitable jack point for the floor jack he was using. I asked if there was an issue and noticed that his jack did not have a rubber pad to prevent damage to the underside of the vehicle. A quick scan revealed that none of the available floor jacks had rubber pads. He agreed to move the vehicle to a lift which was so equipped. While another quite friendly technician proceeded to make the move, the other guy apparently went to complain to his manager who immediately came out and rudely told me I had to leave the area. I agreed to stand outside but still within view. The manager returned to the counter and made some denigrating remarks about the situation to his coworkers right in front of a waiting room full of customers, that also contained my wife. When she heard what was going on, she asked the manager if there was problem. His demeanor prompted her to reconsider having Ken's continue to perform the service. The manager said he would decide for her and we left to have the work done elsewhere. None of my requests were unreasonable and should be standard practice for any professional shop aiming to minimize damage to customers' vehicles. It's a shame I should even have to watch. A technician with self proclaimed "15 years of experience" should not be struggling to find a suitable jack point on a very common vehicle while using a jack without a rubber pad. I forgot to mention that the service, which was supposed to be a simple tire change and wheel balance, began with opening the hood. When I asked why they opened the hood, I was told they were going to perform an oil change. It makes you wonder how often this happens. We will not be going back nor can...
Read moreKen’s Tire is my go to service center. I’ve taken my cars to a few of their locations and it’s always the same great service. Their diagnostic fee is like half of what the dealership charges and the staff is always respectful and takes the time to let me know what’s going on with my vehicle.
I grew up in Schuylkill County but I live in New York now. A little while back my 2014 Chevy Cruze started to sputter and choke a bit at higher speeds when the heat was on. I recently moved to a different location in New York and had not found a garage I trusted yet so I took my car to the dealer. I know… relax… I know. I had no choice. The dealer quoted a little over 4 Grand to fix it. NOPE! I chanced a drive back to PA to visit my Mom and took the car to Ken’s Tire. Got it fixed for around 400 bucks. It’s still running fine 2 years later.
This past New Years Eve I stopped at a Duncan Donut on 61 and when I went to lower the window to get my coffee the glass dropped into the door. Great. This appears to be an issue with the Cruze? That’s what Google said anyway and given that I had the same thing fixed 3 years ago I’m tempted to agree. Ken’s Tire in Frackville fixed the window for me in about an hour-ish and they dropped the diagnostic fee because another Kens’s Tire shop fixed it last time. Yes, I feel the fix should have lasted longer than 3 years but I’m not gonna fault them for that. They didn’t have to drop the diagnostic fee but they did and that’s one of the reasons I like them.
They have also charged me nothing on a few occasions when my issue was super quick and easy to fix like tightening a wire or filling the hamsters water bottle or whatever goes on under the hood. Cars run on hamsters right?
Anyway, for my money Ken’s Tire is an honest shop. I trust them and providing they have an opening in their schedule I will always give them first dibs at...
