There was a major episode of dog aggression tonight. One dog would surely have been dead if the owner of the aggressive dog hadn't acted so quickly and got a face injury that looked like it required stitches. I don't understand what happened as I have seen both of those dogs before and they both were very friendly. I think both owners were very surprised as neither dog is said to be aggressive. The bigger dog immediately darted for the small one. It was a very frightening situation for all of us. Fortunately, the little dog seems like they will be okay.
The point of this message is that I am extremely frustrated (not necessarily in this case because the owners responded) but in many others where there have been dogs that are so aggressive and the owners don't do anything about it. They just respond with "oh that's how dogs just play". That is so incorrect. Dogs need boundaries, and it can only be taught with non-negligent owners who just sit at the benches and gab away. I'm tired of other people's excuses at this dog park and wish people would take responsibility for their actions. The dogs actions are a reflection of their owners. Can you please post something on this page that emphasizes owner's responsibilities for themselves and their dogs? It is ridiculous. I won't be back for a very long time. It is a shame that some have to ruin a good time for others. I have made a great number of friends and so has my dog. She loves coming there. But i am downright scared for her safety.
Like I said, the incident tonight was handled as well as it could have been. It just reminded me of the other times we have been there and some owners could care less and let others do the work they should be doing. Such terrible...
Read moreMy worst experience in more than 20 years of dog parks. I should have listened to the warning from the woman who was leaving when I arrived. There were 3 large intact males that were harnessing other dogs as well as people. "Mr Big" who thought he was in charge, had the attitude that' "that's what dogs do". No dopey, that's what dogs that have no manners, all their hormones and are under no one's control do. His opinion was that since it was a "public park" there were no rules dogs and people could act in any way they wanted and that the people that were being bothered should just leave. I have rarely encountered such ignorance.
My advice to whatever governmental body is in charge of that park is to post a very specific sign (in very simplistic terms) of the Rules for the dogs and the people who bring them. Before someone gets severely hurt and you have a suit on your hands.
My advice to anyone planning on a nice frolic at a dog park is to go somewhere else. Bully's and fools are in...
Read moreThis dog park is free to use (a big plus!) and has a large fenced area for off leash running. It is mostly wood chips and some plants with many trees and lots of shade. My dog enjoyed laying and digging in the dirt. We went on a dry day but I’m guessing its probably very muddy in the spring or after a good rain. There are several benches and 2 picnic tables. Only 2 drawbacks we saw while visiting. First, there is not a separate fenced off area for small dogs and second, while there are some dog dishes there is no water source, so bring water for your dog. Overall a nice dog park we...
