I saw a new game launched that I was interested in. I was on my way home and decided to stop and see if a store had any copies. So, I stopped in at a Gamestop that is on my way home.
I glance at the shelf behind the sales counter and see a stack of the game I'm looking for. "Hi, I'm looking for a copy of Farcry 5 for PS4."
"Did you Pre-order it?"
"No".
"Do you want to buy the Season Pass"
"No. I just want the game."
"Do you want the disk protection?"
"No, I just want the game."
"It covers everyhting other than theft or loss."
"Still no, just want the game"
"It cover scratches, and if you accidentally break the disk"
"I figured that....still a no"
"Its only $3" (I think, it might have been $5)
"Still a no. Just the game today" (Pull cash from my wallet and hold it in my hand)
"Are you a rewards member?"
"I don't usually buy physical copies of games. No."
"Do you want to join?"
"No."
"It gives you discounts (blah blah blah)"
"Still no."
"Do you want to pre-order any games today?"
"No, just this game please."
"Call of Duty? (other game name I didn't recognize)??"
"Nope. Just this game." (Hold cash up).
"Anything else for you today?"
"Yes, I would like to buy this game. (Wave cash)
FINALLY after a conversation more grueling than the Spanish Inquisition he took the cash that I was waiving and let me leave. I'm pretty confident that if this trend continues you will be waterboarded at some point during the checkout process. Why does it take more questions to buy a Playstation Game than I had to answer to buy a house?
This. This right here is what is killing some brick and mortar stores. What they fail to realize is that this purchase right here just cost them my business permanently. I used to enjoy an occasional trip into Gamestop to cruse the used games section picking up old games that I missed. That's done.
From now on I don't care if Gamestop is $20 cheaper for the game i'm buying it online solely to avoid...
Read moreLiterally just made an online order an hour ago, I go to pick up my order. I get there and noticed a 5 person line at the register and no one at the prepaid line. So I browsed around looking at some headsets and other games to give them time to checkout the other customers. Once I noticed they were on to the last customer, I walked up to the pre paid line. One employee asked from the register what I was here for and I told her “ I’m here to pick up my online order for grand theft auto 5.” She never asked my name or anything she just stood there and looked at me weird. Then she asked me if I was here to pick up a video game. I assumed she misheard me so stated again, “I was here to pick up grand theft auto 5 and that I just made an order for it online.” Then she got all flustered and yelled at me to “chill out.” I didn’t say anything back, instead I showed her the screenshot of the purchase and re stated for the 3rd time “I’m here to pick up this game.” She looked at the picture and...
Read moreI walked into the store on Marketplace in Kentwood and said the phrase, "Quest 2", and they knew what I wanted. The nice staff checked their inventory and warehouse deliveries and told me that it was in warehouses for delivery by January 4th. That was way better than the late January delivery I had seen everywhere on line. I gave the info and got an e-mail the next day that my order was ready for shipment and arrival was estimated December 26th. I got a tracking number and on December 24th the arrival was December 27th because of FedEx of Covid deliveries. Woke up December 27th and there it was on my door step, I got it to my grand kids that morning. That is way sooner than the January 4th date and almost a month earlier than anyone else could do it. GameStop is my go to store...
