Like many recent springs in north central Florida this days temperature waited til after 5 thirty to fall below 90. Tom Petty Park was hosting practicing ball players,, moms in shade, kids not. Scarce in these parts are children who consider excess sunshine a detriment to outdoor activity. Few similarly minded dogs had coaxed, or begged or threatened their people to grab leash and go but some had succeeded. Lite breezes were wafting more in.Tennis courts were bustling with retrievers chasing neon balls free fallin everywhere. We, my dog and I, enjoyed our walk without considering once that nothing could bring...

I went there with a friend for the dog park area we finally found it the park itself is beautiful they had a few workman there adding more dirt for walking areas the dog park area is fenced in but it had large dogs at the time and we had a very small chihuahua with us so we decided it wasn't a good idea but it looks great we had a good time and it's worth going to the dog park area and the park there is an area for children to play on swings and so forth your children and doggies...

Have visited this park since '65,always beautiful. Plenty of space. Ball fields that have hosted softball, flag football,a visit from the King and his Court(a softball fast pitch 4 man team)",etc. Racquetball courts at one time and tennis courts. Personally, I enjoy picking up burgers at Macs on 10th Ave. and enjoying them here(a tradition). Equipment for the kids. I would consider this park a historic place and not only because of it's name but also because...

I see a lot of comments here about nothing there about Tom Petty. True. This is a nice little park that they named after him after he died. For something more directly music related Gainesville also has the Bo Diddley plaza - a fine mid size outdoor venue close to 'downtown'.

I've often walked around the park and used the dog park, haven't used the tennis courts or baseball fields but they are often being utilized. The dog park is tops... nice water area, poop bags are always available, balls are often donated. It's just a good community spot!

We enjoyed the fenced in dog park at Tom Petty. Dogs are given separate areas for large/small breeds. We liked the shade from the trees, benches, drinking water for dogs, and grassy areas of this park. As with every dog park, owners are responsible for their own dogs.
