A very interesting historical site. I had never heard of the Washburnes prior to visiting Galena. The docent was very friendly and knowledgeable and I learned a lot of very interesting facts. The house has been wonderfully restored and the tour is very informative.

If you enjoy 1800’s history this house and tour is for you. Beautiful home and a wonderful tour. The tour guides were extremely knowledgeable and pleasant. It’s a must see when visiting Galena.

My family and I had a wonderful time touring this beautiful home and hearing the stories of the Washburne family as well as stories about President Grant and even President Lincoln in relationship to the Washburnes. The guides gave an excellent tour and had so much interesting information. The art work and furnishings (including a view of the original wall paper) really give you a sense of the history. I would recommend guests and residents of Galena take a tour of this special home. There is a donation box...

If you like history...worth the time. This place is not open very often as it is staffed by wonderful volunteers,so if it is open make sure to go. The guide was great and very informative and entertaining. Please leave a donation so great places like this can keep going. If you visited Grants Home,this will tie it...
