Grant Park — Attraction in Galena

Clean, historical. Plenty of space between displays to have a leisurely stroll in between stops. Very close (across the river) to downtown and also close to public parking that's not in a super busy area. The plaques for some displays need to be fixed/ replaced though, as some are very difficult to read through the shattered plastic. It's a very impressive display of relics and memorials, though. Although historical stops are not usually in my realm of interests, it's very cool to touch weapons that have been fired here before while reading about their stories and how the town...

Park is nice, but is also in need of some repairs. They have various cannons throughout the park, but most of the informational signs by them were damaged or difficulty to read due to being weathered or damaged (see pics). The fountain near the center of the park was very large and ornate, but had only about a trickle of waterflow. I imagine it was quite impressive at one time, but for some reason (maybe age or disrepair), it lacks any water pressure. This is a park right across the river from downtown Galena. You can get there via bridge over the river - or there's parking on the eastern side. There's a hill from the main entrance on the east side of the river to get to the top - with great views of downtown Galena. This is such a nice park. There are paved walkways that take you through the park There are a number of benches various views. There's a gazebo, a statue of Grant, historic cannons/howitzers, a water fountain, a playground for small kids, and a basketball court. Can be a good place...
