SAFETY SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE for a so-so show? Not the best show we've seen..not the worst...we don't want to be negative and while the show was "ok", it wasn't just the show we weren't happy about. Being claustrophobic, I noted immediately there wasn't any other exit in the performance area except the main door! NO FIRE EXIT from the theater? "And CRAMPED SPACE holding what we counted as 24 that night. So, at Fried Green Tomatoes (an AMAZING restaurant, btw) we figured it out: 18 x 20...approx. 360 feet total is the P. T.'s performance space, divided by the 50 feet everyone is supposed to have at a "spectator event" (see Illinois State Fire Marshall's rules below in the screenshot) came out to his theater is supposed to legally on hold 7 audience members...and he sells 24 seats! Would be great to say something positive...but not when safety may be at risk!
In response to the owner, P. T. Murphy: yup, we're locals. Not sure how that makes us the previous owners or how you suddenly go into attack mode on someone? Anyone can trace an IP address to a town, but it takes someone especially paranoid to make such an assumption. If you had "TWO egresses" or whatever that means, maybe you'd have made it clear where it was instead of the gaping darkness behind us in which we could see NO EXIT. Also, a lot of people like me keep a measuring tape in their trucks. Nope, didn't see your occupancy report. We did, however, experience a very "so so" show in a VERY cramped theater! After we saw your response we went to your site and noticed it now says "There is a 12 ticket limit for this event date". Funny how right above it in your description it says "24-seat magic theater". And the night we were there it was definitely 24 people cramped into a dark small space with no visible second exit. So, if your little theater is so safe and for 24 people, why did your tickets availability go down to 12? Looks kinda shady, bro. Looking through your reviews, seems like whenever someone doesn't like your show you bully them. Maybe you should take up another profession? We kind of figured you had some issues from your performance. Now we're sure. You're never going to please everyone, PT. You didn't please us, and we felt cramped and unsafe so we looked some stuff up after measuring your place because we were bored....
Read moreI had been wanting to see this show for quite some time. My wife and I finally got the chance to make the short trip to Galena recently specifically to do so and I must say that it was well worth it! We love seeing magic shows whenever we get the chance and we didn't really know what to expect with P.T. Murphy. This is not a children's magic show. It is very appropriate for anyone over the age of 13 but not a "kiddy" show like some may assume when they hear the words "magic show". We were the 1st to arrive and greeted by P.T. the moment we got there and checked in. This was already a completely different experience than I had ever remember having at any other theater magic show. We were escorted to our seats after introductions. P.T. mingled with everyone as others arrived, making it feel like the show began from the time you sat down, so there is never a dull moment. The small theater is cozy but comfortable and a really fitting atmosphere for the type of classical yet unique type of show that he performs. There are a variety of types of effects that you will see in this show. He performs things that you have most likely never seen before, as well as some amazing card magic and even some spooky themed magic to fit in with the Galena experience. There was more comedy than I expected, as well! P.T. was one of the most personable magicians we've seen perform and I would certainly go back to see his show again. If you are in Galena, I don't just recommend this show, but I insist that you see it if you want to have a VERY memorable experience...
Read moreThis is my first time reviewing a magic show, so I hope I can properly express how impressed I was with P.T.Murphy magic theatre.
Setting It is about a 24 seat venue. If you have a problem with the size. First off, my eyes are not the best, so being able to see what is going on is what is important for me and my girlfriend. I feel that if it was bigger, I would think it would be difficult to see what is going on.
Owner To me, P.T. Murphy is a nice guy. He welcomed everyone when they came in. I found him pretty funny when he was doing his show. He also let me know where my party went after the show.
Show I enjoyed it a lot. His showmanship is a fun and light hearted. His memory is amazing. The magic preformed was very entertaining as well shocking. I really recommend seeing his show.
Overall I recommend seeing his show. He seems like a genuinely nice guy and the performance is very entertaining. I missed out on getting a picture with him, which I regret doing. So that would be my reason to see his show again when I am in town again.
After note: had to throw the goat out… had a...
