Babe's Beach — Attraction in Galveston

Babe's Beach is where we usually go to hang out when we want to have a beach day. From downtown Houston, it can be a bear to get to with traffic due to road construction, but it's worth the trip.

Parking is easy along the seawall IF you leave early and can nab a spot. It's paid and it's easy if you use the app. We just bought a year pass or whatever because we come down most weekends.

There are restrooms along the seawall.

There aren't many options for grabbing snacks and drinks here beachside. I think the pier sells some things, but we haven't tried that yet. Make sure you bring plenty of water.

I spent most of my summers in Tampa Bay. I spent a weird year on the Pacific. This feels nothing like either of those, this is its own thing entirely. The water is murky here because the river dumps into the ocean. Wild stuff washes up on the beach. If you go at the right time, you can nab some beautiful seashells. I found my first sea bean after a big storm! Take precautions against normal beach threats - the sun, wildlife, rip currents, etc. and don't leave trash and...

It was a pretty decent beach. We went a few days ago and the views were very pretty. However, the water looked and smelled gross so we just walked along the water instead of swimming. It was clean for the most part, but there were pieces of broken glass in the sand and trash floating in the water. I'm very lucky my husband noticed the glass because I almost stepped right down on it. Also there are LOTS of seagulls everywhere. Overall, it's a nice beach to come and catch some sun and build sandcastles, but...

Very nice part of Galveston...the water was amazing on this day! Gas station nearby. Umbrella and Chair rental is like $41 for the day by Bennett's Rental..very nice staff. The only downside is that people aren't considerate of your space and they set their own chairs and tents within arms reach of your area..I can practically reach into their cooler and join in the conversation. So annoying. But other than inconsiderate people, the beach is calm early morning and gets choppy as the day goes depending...
