Once the largest chair in the world, Gardner’s giant chair celebrates the history of what was the largest industry in the town. Like many of the surrounding towns (Toy Town, etc) Gardner was once nicknamed for its leading product- chairs. In the early 20th century this “largest chair in the world” was constructed and now sits in front of the High School. It’s a short detour off of Route 2 if you are passing through, and just a slight detour if you’re heading from Boston to Keene, NH or to hike Mount Monadnock.

The giant chair of Gardner. Worth the detour if you are in the area. Easy to park on one of the side streets or the school when not in session. Stairs lead down from the school to the grassy area the chair is on. It is in pretty good shape and it is possible for some folks to climb up for a photo without much help, some might need an 8 foot ladder. Other interesting sites nearby.
