Grand Traverse Commons Natural Area — Attraction in Garfield Township

Living here since 2011 I have often visited the natural area/hiking trails many times over, more times than I can count. All seasons, except winter. I've also had countless individuals come with me and or invited me to come with them on a hike and so on. It's a great place for being out in nature away from the main Traverse City's, city area. Could use green,blue, black signage with large trail names. The "you are here" maps are nice but most people have trail forks or other apps. So they know the trail names they are looking for. Being able to ride up to a trail junction and seeing the trail name you are looking for is nice when you don't have to stop and look at a small sign. Big signs with names so you can continue riding notnlooking at maps. The trails...

This is a simple hike with several loops that can be taken on foot or on a bike. Notable attractions include an old orchard, several small stream crossings, a nice view of the Traverse City landscape and the hippy tree.

While not extremely exciting, these trails do make for decent exercise with several sizeable uphill climbs and are a good way to walk off some calories from the nearby...
