I love down in the valley! I was 13 when my uncle (who just recently passed) took me there my first time. (I’m 32 now) My son and I are new to the neighborhood, a drastic change for us. I took my son here for the first time, I’m super excited to show him what a record and a cd is! lbvs we got a couple things, I asked for a lighter as well, she asked what color I wanted, my son shouts out his favorite color, whatever, so I get blue. So we are now having our things rung up, she asks for my I.D as well as my sons I.D. I give her my I.D and chuckle a little because my son does not have an I.D because he's only 11, going on 12. I let her know that, and she legit would not sell me a lighter because my 11 year old son doesn’t have an I.D!! She proceeded to tell me that he was part of the transaction because he chose the color of the lighter… I’m so confused!! This women Katrina haugen, on July 9th at 3:30 pm, made me so uncomfortable. I waited this long to even write this review because I’m not one to judge or offend anyone, but my son and I were racially profiled by this women. I understand their are rules and yes checking an I.D but she seen my I.D she seen how old I was, I just don’t understand, she made us uncomfortable, she embarrassed me, and she ruined what I was hoping to be a great memory for my son and I. She gave me anxiety about moving to this new neighborhood. It was truly one of the worst experiences I’ve had to encounter. I then had to explain to my son what had just happened, it’s just sad! Awful. I thought I could get over this,...
Read moreLet me start this off by saying I’m glad this original store has existed so long and they have kept their overall classic look and feel for approximately 50 years. It is definitely a staple of the area and I would feel empty without it in this GV location. As far as my personal experiences go, I’ve had mixed feelings towards the overall service and pricing. There have been several times I’ve felt they were being way too aggressive in following me asking me if I’m finding everything alright around the store whilst I browse. I often get a vibe they think I’m stealing and it really makes things awkward. Sometimes I’ve even said I’m not stealing anything, and they play it off and laugh. Sometimes the workers have been normal and courteous but usually I get a weird perception. Now as far the pricing goes, I believe they’re outrageous and overpriced. Most of their used albums are way too expensive and their new ones are even more laughably priced to astronomical levels. I understand they need to profit as an independent business but sometimes a deal would be nice. As far as the interior goes it’s fantastic and organized very well. The head vinyl guy/owner/manager is a bit pretentious though. The place is a hangout for the Perprich artsy teens at night which can be off putting as well with their odd behaviors. Overall this place isn’t bad but they...
Read moreI went to Down in the Valley today and encountered an employee that sure knows how to make a customer feel welcomed. I noticed there were a few people gathered around the counter so I walked through a music aisle to circle back towards the counters from the other side so as to be able to maintain proper social distance. Right after walking past the music section counter their beam full of witty refrigerator magnets caught my eye so I stopped to look at them. I am not sure what I had done to raise suspicions as I hadn’t been inside the store for more than 30 seconds nor had I touched a single item. Nevertheless an employee promptly went from behind the music counter and stood near me. By standing there with his arms crossed and repeatedly glancing over at at me he made it clear he was there to watching me. I asked him if he worked there to which he matter of factly responded “yes I do” then looked away. I then asked how much the magnets cost and he told me the price is on the back of them. I picked one up and saw it was only $3.99 which I thought was a good deal and would have gladly purchased one but it was so uncomfortable with him overtly hovering over me that I didn’t want to take the time to pick one out and instead just gave up and went right up to the counter for what I came for and got...
