All the food and drinks we've tried are pretty amazing. This time I got the braised pork shank and it was phenomonal. Service in the resturant is very good. If I was just rating that, I'd give them 5 stars.
The Inn is quaint and mostly what you'd hope a collection of old houses made into a restored inn would be. Service is good and the "breakfast" option is nice if you need something as a snack to tide you over until Granville opens the next day.
This time we stayed in room 9, which is supposed to be haunted. We didn't see our feel anything. I've been in house museums that felt more haunted. We also didn't sleep. Like most hotels, their queen beds are NOT queens, they are doubles. Also, not sure what kind of mattress was on the bed, but it was horrible. The bedframe and/or mattress set was so loud, there was no way to sleep in it AND move. If you moved, everyone woke up. The mattress felt like it was made of lumpy plywood. I never really slept, but when I finally got up, my whole body hurt. Also, the second bed is so high up off the floor that they provided a step stool to get in it. Great, except when you're half asleep and try to get out of bed and it's so far up you fall out, banging your lower back on the bedside table and smashing your phone screen.
The part of the bathroom that was in the bathroom was clean and spacious but the water fluctuated from cold to scalding, so we had to constantly adjust the temperature manually. The very nice sink was out in the front bedroom which made it awkward to get ready for bed, then to leave on the morning.
It wasn't a terrible stay but it also was not restful. Disappointed, since last time we stayed in a different room for the weekend and it was great. But room 9 is a no go, even for fans of the...
Read moreSeriously pains me to do this… but I have to downgrade my previous 5 stars down to 2 based on my most recent experience. Sadly, the ambiance, inn host, and cocktails are the last remaining reasons there even exist these pitiful two stars.
Tonight’s food preparation was abysmal at best. Our order was taken incorrectly. And just when I was discussing with my husband how we should continue (although begrudgingly) to patronize this local business due to its historical significance, after dinner we were CHASED OUT of the building by our server for “not signing our check”. Should he have simply flipped over the check affixed to the holder (as many diners do to provide some privacy to others as to the price of dinner or the size of a tip), he would have happily seen it there waiting for him. Instead, he chased out of the building, found us walking a full block away and yelled out to us a full bellied “hey” at a full near scream. In front of young children. On the quiet streets of sleepy Granville. When we called back to him apologetically explain that he merely needed to turn over the check to see his signed copy, he did nothing more than walk back in the other direction.
Historic Buxton Management, this is unacceptable. We will not return for some time now because of this. I hope that in that period, you will invest not only in your ingredients and menu innovation, but more importantly your people. Being treated this way, especially as a local family, is...
Read moreJust wow..... where do I begin what a difference a few years makes. We had gone for Thanksgiving dinner a few years ago it was a Buffet and it was wonderful. We just went yesterday and it was just a $45 deal which we love the location etc. so we did it. We sat down and I’m not for sure if they were short on help but regardless you’re paying that much money and you do not get the results that you should get for your meal. Our server I don’t believe he was a regular server? He had a problem even trying to take our drink order. And then when we did order the salads we had the salads and no dressing for the salad so we had to request it. And we just really didn’t get any service until the end when we were basically done. And also we ended up getting our hefty bills and we still weren't asked what kind of dessert we wanted in the three-course meal so we had to ask, do we still get our dessert? So we had paid our bills before we even got desert. Also the other tables had bread and we had our salad which normally we usually eat our bread sometimes with the salad so we had to ask for the bread . It is was not worth the $45 each . So I think we will be staying in Columbus this time next...
