We always first make a stop at Spring Park coffee just on the corner of 17 and I get a coffee and the kids all get one of their many absolutely delicious baked goods... I feel like it's a must to really get the package experience Such a beautiful park... A stream from the natural spring (hence why the town has its name of Green Cove Springs the spring pumps out nearly 1,400 gallons per minute of water... that spring then runs into && through the city pool it flows down a beautiful rocky waterfall and that waterfall leads to a small Creek just on the backside of the park leading all the way out to the st. Johns River...
The water temperature stays around 70° Year Round it feels warm in the winter and freezing in the summer
From what I gathered Abraham Lincoln himself used to have that water shipped right to the White House... before the Great Depression hit Green Cove Springs would have been a current day Miami...
I love love love the new read along path that is up.... this has been a favorite of mine my entire life and it is now a favorite of my children as well the only suggestion that I have would be a little more friendly history and information about the actual spring itself because the little bit of information I shared above some of it is not there and the parts of it that is there is very dull and bleak on one little small sign same material and design of a stop sign...
We love the sidewalk walkway that runs right on the edge of the st. Johns River with swings along the way the playground at self is just wonderful and has a smaller area for toddlers so the littles have somewhere to play and then a much bigger really Spectacular Park for the older kids, great swings for every age
For us nothing finishes off our adventure like a walk down...
Read moreThis is my favorite park . I love that it's on the lovely St John's river and centrally located in Green Cove Springs , FLORIDA ! There's sun and shade alike and great walking / hiking trails , a great playground for kids under 12 ( including a swing for children with disabilities , very nice 👌 ) There's a pier to fish or capture terrific photos of sunrise or a sunset . On Sunday morning ( during COV 19 , isolation ) there happens to be a 9am non-denominational / all welcome live musical band church service . The clergy stay positioned under a gazebo and people scatter out in their own chairs , blanket or on the ground . Communion is served in safe , sealed cups as is bottled water . The park welcomes dogs ON LEASH PLEASE and there are restrooms as well as a cold water fountain to get water for yourself and your pet . There are specifically NO PITBULLS ALLOWED ...just so you know . Also, be sure to clean up after your dogs and self and kids ! Boat slips are available but I don't know cost ? There are boxes for payment though 😁 OH AND A VERY COLD SPRING FED POOL AND PLAY FOUNTAIN TOO ! Last I checked pool was 5$ per day but I can't attest to cost now . Just trust me , it is...
