This is an entire complex of buildings, comprising an old jail(haunted), the county archives, an old courthouse, a railroad museum, and the Clay County Historical Society, with many artifacts both donated and discovered, deeds, wills, old maps, numerous photographs and a few very enthusiastic volunteers. It's only open on Sunday afternoons from 2 to 5 which is a shame, but the president of the Historical Society is completely okay with giving guided tours by appointment on other days. I brought my son today and he loved it. We spent nearly 2 hours there and could have stayed longer. The museum is in it's own building and features themed rooms. Want to see a country store, with 19th century goods and tools? This is the place. Slim Whitman grew up around here. Come see his guitars, his gold albums, and 3 walls worth of memorabilia. Railroad stuff? They got it. Old lanterns, switches, conductors hats and uniforms. There's plenty of parking and admission is free. Toss some money in the jar by the door though. It's well worth it. Stop by on a Sunday afternoon. You'll be glad you did!

My husband and I had a wonderful afternoon today at the Clay County Historical Society History and Railroad Museum in Green Cove Springs. It was so interesting and educational. The volunteers were so helpful, outgoing and very knowledgeable about the history and artifacts in all the buildings. We are so impressed that Clay County has preserved this area know as the Historic Triangle which includes the History Museum, Veterans Memorial, the 1894 Jail/Archives and the 1890 Historic Courthouse. A big thank you to all the volunteers that make it possible to vist this amazing site that is part of our history in Green Cove Springs.

So CUTE! The Old County Jail a great place to visit. It’s not large and most of the cells are on the second story. The stairs to get to the 2nd floor are old and not level so hold on to the railing and be careful. This place is definitely worth checking out. You can step inside the cells to get a better sense of what it could of been like. There is a few single cells with bunks, sink and toilet. One large cell that would of housed a few inmates and a few cells that were to house more serious offenders 😳
