Arrived to park summertime and peak hours. Very crowded but that was my fault. Reasoning for docking off one star is the condition of the toddler playground. My baby is almost three, the toddler playground needs maintenance and TLC. Some features are broken, unusable, and graffiti all over the playground.
I do have issues with parents not watching their children. ESP when they should be playing in the older playground and not bullying the younger children. But people will be people and the joys of being in public. You will run into lots of rude kids and parents here. Many do not have playground etiquette and respect. Therefore, my second docked star is because of the people at this park. I saw it all within less than one hour here, examples are: kids running by and pushing my child down (when confronted the kid did not apologize until I got the parents involved… btw they were not in the general area when this happened), running up the slides when there are others trying to slide down, kids not waiting for their turns for slides and swings, some will run up and try to stop your kid on swings, adults on phones not watching children, kids rollerblading on the ramps and slides, other kids trying to slap my child for climbing up the ladder to get onto the playground, parents giving food/snacks to eat on playground and not cleaning up…these are just some of the many incidents that happened….So try your best to stay calm and be present for your child having fun.
Therefore…My patience and emotions were definitely tested today on a Wednesday evening at this park. Rocking off the third star for my mental health here under one hour at this park. My baby was still able to enjoy the slides, swings, and 3 of 4 climbing ladders/steps/rocks. One of the ladders to climb onto the playground was broken. Despite all the negative interactions, my baby had a good day and sleep good that night after burning off energy playing.
Toddler playground, older kids playground, swings and exercise/outdoor gym in the general area.
Unfortunately with my experience here, will not be coming back due to the type of kids and parents here. My advice is to come here not peak hours and weekdays. Lowering your chances of encountering rude kids/parents. Lots of parking (probably 6 handicapped parking) and shaded trees and some benches/tables. Senior center on site, tennis courts, and after school/summer programs hosted here. They have flyers posted there and via...
Read moreSteinmetz Park has always been our favorite park to take our now 10 year old son since he was two. We have enjoyed all the family events, recreational events, summer camp, and outreach the park has offered over the years. However this past Friday while my son was at martial arts, my husband came upon a individual who was unconscious in the male's bathroom. He immediately called 911 and later on was told that the individual had been doing drugs. Further, one of the park's staff member told my husband that this individual commonly comes to the park and has never been asked to leave regardless of his disposition. Well, I'm a bit upset about the lackadaisical attitude of the staff member that did not think that individuals who are under the influence or intoxicated could pose a threat to children who frequently visit the park. I'm greatful that my son didn't have to use the facilities, witness this, and then need to explain that the individual had been using drugs. I hope that the park manager creates a protocol as to how to handle individuals who are under the influence in a different manner than simply...
Read morePark itself gets 5 stars, has free wifi too if you are there. Too many troublemakers always about at this park, openly yelling and screaming at kids and what not. Clearly drug dealings and other activities commonly happen after dark, large homeless population, often comes through the back houses. Some of them are too aggressive probably wouldn't take kids here unsupervised. ( Some young looking men camp out, have huge pit bulls or other dogs on leashes, glaring at you aggressively....I mean if you aggress against them, their dog is literally gonna attack you....hard to try and be more intimidating than that. ) Not that they are very intimindating them selves, mostly crack heading look dudes, and the one really loud guy who always screams at everyone ( teddy? ). Seems harmless though, just not sure you can really count on him not yelling profanity at...
