On a heat wave day in Aug, we decided to get to half moon bay. We got there around 4:30. There are parkings along hwy 1, you just have to be patient and look around. We got a spot in front of the skateboard park. The sand is very fine, and brown. There is a wide open space park by the beach. There is no shade, no water fountain. People bring chairs to the park. There is a dropped cliff at the edge of the park lead to the down below beach. Most people bring tents, umbrellas, chairs. Some just spread out beach tower and have sun-tan. Kids play in water.

Great shallow beach, fantastic for younger kids and body-boarding/learning to surf. Need to climb up & huge rocks though to reach the beach in some areas, but that's probably what keeps it not too crowded! There are some easy steps on the northern access spot though. Clean sand, no jelly fish, free parking albeit scarce.

It was a refuge from COVID most people are just enjoying the beach social distancing was going on but there were no masks and it was refreshing. easy to get to the steps down to the beach for a bit of a challenge for my mom who just had a hip replaced. But with help she was able to get down and back up the steps.

This beautiful, dog-friendly, and kid-friendly beach is just south of Pillar Point Air Force Station and mostly north of Mirimar Beach Restaurant where you can easily find free parking across the street. Due to the local coastal fog, the beach is not always sunny, but it is popular with dogs, families, and surfers alike.

Wild sea life can sometimes be found just off-shore, including sea lions, otters, and whales plus the occasional tidal beaching of live sand dollars and jellies depending on the season,...

A short drive down California Highway 1 from the Cliff House (s/w) of San Francisco. Pleasant beach with easy pedestrian access. Ample area for people spread a blanket/towel to sit on the beach area. Did not remember any fire pits but really wasn't looking for travel amenities. Enjoyed walking and observing the...
