Okay, we loved it and I’ll do my best to give tips because the ranger who shared these tips was great. The visitor center parking fills up quickly and it’s free. The park entrance charges $5. Or park across diagonally from the visitor center and park at the gift store, per ranger up to an hour and that’s acceptable. Or he said go down the street (forget the name) but it’s right next to the gift store and restaurant picnic tables and there is a brown house on the right and across the street is a small picnic area with small parking area in front, basically you can find parking. We didn’t read up too much but it was fun to learn as we explored. We started in the visitor center and bought an energy bar and we had our own water. Hiked down the wide graveled trail which offered benches to rest as you go down or up. It’s worth the walk down, see pics. There were dogs and people in the water and people knew you could swim because most of the people hiking down had towels or bathing suits on while others were ready to just hike and take in view. We recommend and will see what’s it like if we try to go during leaf...
Read morewhenever we go to Woodstock we always drive over the bridge I've stopped over and looked at it several times but we had my sister-in-law with us who I believe has never seen it so we stopped and probably took about 15 minutes to walk along and look down and it is quite a drop it's I would say from the bridge it's probably close to 200 feet down to the water below and it is quite as they say it is a gorge it's like a small canyon.if you have good footwear you can basically go down these trails that will take you down not quite to the river itself because it's pretty slick there cuz when they had the big flood in 2011 it scoured the shore and so it's all bare rock near the shore and if you go down the you'll end up almost guaranteed you'll fall into the river at this time of the year that's probably not the best thing to happen cuz the water is cold so I would say it could prove to be fatal.you do get a much better view you get to look at the bridge above you and it's pretty impressive but you need to have good footwear cuz it's pretty steep in spots it's not a place to...
Read moreNot that anyone asked, and I love VT, but in my opinion, this is not a scenic route worth going out of your way for lol. So much fencing, barriers, construction, traffic, and a suicide call box made this adventure a far cry from the natural wonder that it should be. Don't get me wrong, I don't want anyone jumping off a bridge and take that very seriously, but I don't think high fences with tiny viewing holes are the solution. The whole thing was kind of just a sad sight for nature lovers. Maybe if you could hike to the bottom and get away from the hustle and bustle, you could truly enjoy your visit. Also, maybe it'll be better when the construction is done, but who knows when that will be. 10/2024
On a side note, I could've spent days exploring the Antique Mall down the street. Lots of good VT food products and souvenir opportunities of all kinds! Highly recommend...
