I stopped hear with my spouse as we took a drive through VT, and only because we saw a packed parking lot. I’m so glad we stopped! This turned out to be my favorite VT activity so far. It’s essentially a 20 minute hike down along a gorge formed by a glacier during the ice age. Beautiful at the bottom where you can walk around the basin when the water is low. The path is very well maintained and safe to walk. It’s a bit steep though.
Appropriate for all ages so long as you are mobile. It’s not suited for wheelchairs and not ideal for strollers due to the steepness. It’s also free! We spent about an hour hear. There are two sides, we only did one of the trails and it was lovely. I...
Read moreWe stopped here for a quick rest stop on a drive. The gorge is pretty from the bridge from above and we heard the visitor center had a trail to walk down to the bottom. I think part of it is under construction but the part we walked was really nice. The trail was a good length of descent and ascent. One of average health can probably walk up and down it in 20 mins total. The trail is wide and smooth beside a few dips that run perpendicular across the trail for drainage. Once we got down we saw a river that ran on our right through the gorge. Families, friends and couples and well behaved dogs were walking on the rocks. Many people were swimming in the gorge area. Watch for the strong current but I thought it was fun to put myself to the test to swim up steam to the rapids with lots of rest breaks on the side and then enjoy the fun and fast swim back to my starting point. There also seemed to be a big flat island area at the bottom of the gorge which I saw some people explore but I was too busy enjoying the fun swimming...
Read moreDrove over the gorge a yeat ago and was floored by how deep and impressive it was. This time came back during a flood and everything was a bit washed out. The water was very deep and muddy so you couldnt see any of the impressive rocks or even really how deep the gorge usually is, nor could you enter the gorge because of flooding. However, the guy at the visitor center was soooo nice to my husband and son. We were all smiling when we left. They have a fun penny stamping machine, bathrooms, and it's a great stop for...
