Nixon Park is hands down one of our favorite spots—especially in the summer. There’s just something magical about Thursday nights here. The live concerts in the park bring the whole community together, and while the music plays, the kids are off having a blast on the playground or at the splash pad. It’s the kind of place where you can just exhale and enjoy the moment.
The beer garden adds the perfect adult touch—nothing beats sipping a cold drink, grabbing a bite to eat, and soaking in the summer vibes with friends and neighbors. And if you’re into pickleball, the courts are always buzzing with energy.

Read moreI was looking for the trailhead for the National Ice Age Trail. Although there are short sections of trail at Nixon Park, they did not connect directly to the main trail.
I found the trailhead a short distance away at the Aldo Leopold Marsh on Maple Street. The trail was slick with packed down snow from use. So I walked carefully. I could hear sandhill cranes but was not able to see them.
The hike took me to some pavement a couple of times. Then into Nagawaki Golf Course. My halfway point was Perkins restaurant in Delafield. About 3.6 miles from the trailhead. 7.2 miles round trip.
